Artist's Bio
Unlike many artists, Will Enns was not born with a
pencil clutched in each of his extremities. In fact, he was thought
by his peers to be somewhat normal until his 40's, when he began drawing
seriously, and his unorthodox view of the world came to light.
His artistic approach is the distillation of a simple concept: "If
art does not elicit a response from the viewer, it's probably not
much good. I don't want people to be indifferent to my work. They
should either love it, or hate it." While he suspects such a
simple view is the anti-thesis of high-browed elitism, he doesn't
worry too much. "I don't want to be taken seriously. The art
world is too constipated already."
Will attributes the 3-dimensionality of his works to an interest in
formal portraiture; "...it is perhaps the most demanding of the
painterly disciplines. Once learned, portrait skills serve well with
all subject matter."
Will lives and works in Summerland, BC, where his wife Dolly encourages
him in his artistic efforts when she is not too busy chortling over
them. He illustrates for a few magazines, including Okanagan Life
Magazine, of Kelowna, BC, and is currently creating cover paintings
for Canadian Technician Magazine, of Ontario. He is a self-taught
watercolorist.
