CVYC
Coordinator
 |
Chelsea Peddle
Hi! My name is Chelsea and I am so lucky
to work with the fantastic folks that make up the CVYC. My
main duty as coordinator is to support you and to help make your
dreams for a better Victoria a reality. It's a tall order,
and I am definitely up for the challenge.
I love theatre, music, arts and crafts, films Especially
if it has a message because arts and activism belong together!
I'm always on the lookout for new games, activities, and artistic
exercises - so if you've got any tips, please share them! I
am 26 and I've been working, volunteering and activist-ing in
the wild and crazy world of social justice for a few years now,
mostly facilitating workshops on the tricky issues of anti-racism,
anti-homophobia, and anti-oppression. (If you don't know
what those terms mean, don't worry I'm still trying to
figure them out myself!)
I'm so excited about the Youth Council
and I'm looking forward to seeing what you cook up this year!
If you have any questions about the CVYC or about how to
get involved in volunteering or activism in this great city,
drop me a line at victoriayouthcouncil@shaw.ca or call me at
361-0360 ext 9688.

A university graduate from Ontario, I
recently moved here as a way to explore the country, and to work.
I'm passionate about youth issues related to a community but
also a larger city as a whole. Youth are an essential part of
our communities and economies, and we need to support that by
giving youth an evident voice- in communities as well as local
levels of government. I love foreign films, traveling, and learning
about different cultures. I have lived in the Philippines, Egypt,
Ontario and Quebec in Canada. I speak two languages fluently,
Arabic and English, and also conversational French. See you around!

I've been a member of the CVYC since June
2005, and have watched (and hopefully helped) it grow from a
small group of youth voicing their concerns to a full-fledged,
official City of Victoria committee with over a dozen amazingly
dedicated members. I'm on the Survey, Homelessness and Internet
committees, and (for better or for worse) must take responsibility
for the creations of this website. Aside from my work with the
Youth Council, I enjoy creative writing, photography, filmmaking,
animation and guitar.

Salut! I am a grade 12 student at Mount
Doug. This is my first year as part of the City of Victoria Youth
Council and I am extremely excited about the year to come! Outside
of CVYC, I am the Fine Arts Director on my school's Leadership
Council and am very involved with the Enviro-Squad. I am passionate
about Fine arts, French and leadership. I am on a quest to build
a Fine Arts Wing for my school. I play viola in many school-related
orchestras and enjoy playing around on any instrument I can get
my hands on. I also enjoy French public speaking, model parliaments,
speech and song writing, jewelry making and French Canadian Traditional
Dance.

I came to Victoria in Aug., 2004 from
Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China, and have been an Executive
Member of the CVYC since September, 2006. Personally, it,s been
a pleasure to work with a group of active, dedicated, and fervid
peers to provide a political voice for all youths in Greater
Victoria and its vicinity, in an action-oriented fashion. As
a self-identified minority youth, it,s my obligation and responsibility
to cope with the issues interrelated to both majority and minority
youths, in a constructive manner. Hence, I am also a member of
the United Way of Greater Victoria Youth Advisory Council, Queen
Alexandra Foundation for Children YAC, the Inter-Cultural Association
of Greater Victoria,s Youth Against Racism Group, and the Victoria
Delegate in B.C. Student Voice, a group of student delegates
who provide input to the Ministry of Education. I am an ardent
fan of Baroque music, soccer, journalism, and academics. In addition,
I am the founder of my school,s Quotations & Virtues Project,
have started an anti-racism open letter campaign, and do other
volunteering jobs, as I am aware that the dream of social justice
must be achieved ethically,
starting by making a difference in the lives of people around
us. Mother Teresa said "If you can't feed a hundred people,
then feed just one.
