Welcome to Tyhr Geoff Trubiak's Acting Website
Upcoming events:
- opening night for "Mouthful of Birds" as part of the
Master's Playwrite Festival ChurchFest: Feb 3, 2010
"To me, the shining light of the cast was Geoff Trubiak as Loren's hotel attendant Maurice..." John Chase, WinnipegOnstage.com.

"...watching Geoff Trubiak negotiate the awkwardness of appearing to be a loyal Iraqi citizen while working as a translator for the Coalition Forces was heartbreaking." - Andrea Patenaude in the 2004 Jenny Revue of the Winnipeg Fringe Festival for Jill's War.

Dec 6, 2009 - Performed a staged reading of Cam Patterson's "Lipstick and a Revolver: the Peggy Taylor Story" as part of the OpenScreen Door event.

Nov 7, 2009 - Completed filming for Conrad Hoy's Bloodline.

October 31, 2009 - November 1, 2009 - Will be at the Central Canada Comic Con as a panelist for the post screening of Aegri Somnia, which will be shown twice (once on Sat, once on Sunday). I am unsure of the times at the moment.

Also at the Comic Con, GMB Chomichuck will be selling autographed versions of The Imagination Manifesto, which is even creepier now since you'll find me on the pages for the printed form of Aegri Somnia. Check out all the other comics Greg has done as well, or just stop by and say 'hi'.

My appearance at Comic Con will only be limited by my schedule with the William B. Davis 5-day workshop (you may remember him as the Cigarette Smoking Man in X-Files). He runs quite the prestigious school in Vancouver and I'm very excited to see what he has in store.

October 21, 2009 - I've agreed to the role of Murray in Conrad Hoy's "Bloodline" to be shot in November.

October 20, 2009 - GMB Chomichuk had his book(s) release/autograph session of the first volume of "The Imagination Manifesto" at McNally Robinson to a packed crowd. The hardcover book is available in 2 different covers, one of which is the collector's limited edition (200 prints only). I got mine autographed :) This marks the first time I've been imortalized in a graphic novel/comic book form that actually has an ISBN registered and sells in the major bookstores, which is pretty cool to me since I grew up with comic books...

If you've seen the movie Aegri Somnia and want to see more, or if you haven't seen Aegri Somnia yet (you probably haven't since the final version was just finished a few weeks ago. There was an earlier pre-screening to select film industry members), The Imagination Manifesto is a book containing 4 stories, one of which is a unique twist to Aegri Somnia.

October 18, 2009 - Played a game warden with a twist in the "Canadian Goose" skit filmed for the tv pilot "Absurd TV" with Chris Hodgson and Ward Massner, directed by James Rewucki and DOP'd by Mike Sanders.

October 13, 2009 - Wrapped from the tv series "Cashing In", season 2. I had a great time and met a lot of amazing people throughout the run.

October 10, 2009 - Learned a lot from LA's Ben Davis, who is a certified instructor in the "Chubbuck Technique" in his weekend workshop.

September 20, 2009 - Had a blast performing "Never Swim Alone" at the YMCA's Camp Stevens over the weekend. The choreographed and animated script reading was directed by Matthew TenBruggencate (who just did a great job in the play "Cherry Docs", as I'm writing this update quite late), and performed by Brent Hirose, Mel Marginet and myself to a great, and slightly buzzed audience.

August 31, 2009 - I've been offered the role of Adam on APTN's television series "Cashing In".

August 27, 2009 - I've been given the opportunity to have my likeness used as a prop in photographs in the movie "Mothers Day".

June 22, 2009 - I played Carmen, Winnipeg's first male stripper in Farpoint Film's documentary "Winnipeg Burlesque", directed by John Barnard and produced by Kyle Bornais. It's a historical documentary on the life of local stripper agent Gladys Balsillie spanning from the 1960, 70s and 80s. It will be on MTS VOD in 2009.

May 2009 - If you look close enough, you'll spot me a few times in different attire in 6 episode concert filmed for MTS TV Winnipeg on Demand by Low Budget Productions in association with Absurd Machine Films.
Tune into MTS TV Winnipeg on Demand 6pm Thursday, October 1 2009 to see some on Manitoba's best musics talents: Bryce Pallister, Cat Janke, JP Hoe, Daniel Roa, Telepathic Butterflies and Dr. Rage and the Uppercuts.

April 10, 2009 - Shot Ian Russell's short comedy "Guy/Girl" with Jane Walker.

Feb 28, 2009 - Accepted a role in a music video for local up and coming rock band sensation "The Nods".

Feb 21, 2009 - Shot an episode of Radio Free Krakow with Tony Hart and the very beautiful Jacqueline Guertin.

Another highlight of the day was the reunion with my good friend and AMAZING photographer Rebecca Sandulak, who was taking care of the stills on set. This magical woman can even make me look good on film, and even let me help with the bounce on Jacqueline (photo), lol.

I look forward to the day when I can work with the other cast members of the show: Gem Newman, Laura Olafson and Brent Hirose.

And remember, when actively participating in this show, you can control events, so a word of advice: you can use technology and you can use diplomacy, but we all know that direct action gets results. So if you think violence isn't the answer, then you're not hearing the right questions :P

More info to come as the project nears it's release date.

Feb 18, 2009 - Reading of Eileen Longfield's Fringe play, along with fellow Clara cast-member Jane Walker.

Feb 17, 2009 - I've Accepted the role of Trini in the Nihilonaut's episodic pilot "Radio Free Krakow". A very cool concept stemming from the minds and efforts of producers Ryan FitzGerald and Timo Puolitaipale, and shot and directed by Parris Filbert and Darren Wall.

"Designed from the ground up as an episodic IPTV series that marries immersiveness with quality interactivity, RFK's audience has the opportunity to determine the degree to which they wish to interact with the story. Webcams, chat interface, SMS messaging are all vehicles available to a story that blurs the boundary between reality and fiction.

A hybrid of quality interaction with bleeding-edge convergence content, Radio Free Krakow is a first-person thrill with a real-time pulse."

Feb 6, 2009 - Finished our run of Clara for Millerfest '09 with a bang, beers and buds, as well as wine, women and nachoes!

Dec 15, 2008 - Pictured in Style Manitoba magazine.

Dec 4, 2008 - I will be playing Detective Lieutenant Fine along with Ray Cloutier, Jane Walker and Rob Ross for Arthur Miller's Clara for MillerFest 2009, directed by Eileen Longfield at the Ellice Café & Theatre, 587 Ellice Avenue

May 24, 2008 - Ian Russell's entry for Cinematheque's "Son of Rambow" contest "Wizard II: The WiiZard" will be premiering Wednesday, July 9 at 9:00 pm. I'm the cool looking "Lucas". :P

May 24, 2008 - Tyson Koschik's "Button Pushers" (formerly known as "Techs") will be premiering at the Park Theatre on Sunday, June 15, 2008. showtimes at 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, tickets $5 from 7pm - 10pm. Button Pushers (20 min) is a sardonic, comedy-short about the not-so-glamourous-lives of button-pushers working behind the scenes at a hokey, local news station, where a rapacious, local-TV-celebrity rules with an iron (and whiskey-clinching) fist.
Starring Matthew Stephanson, Jennifer Pudavick, Peter Jordan, Nicolas Oulette, Donald Nordman, Avital Ludwig and Tyhr Trubiak.
Produced by Tyson Koschik and Harmen Meinders

You can also make fun of my French Canadian accent! LoL The first 2 ladies to arrive get to sit on my lap. :P

May 23, 2008 - Well, since I'm on here, I'd like to wish David Dick the best of luck on his callback. I'll be reading with him tomorrow for his video audition for a feature film. I read with him for his initial video audition, and I can never stop raving about the guy.

As well, I'll be reading Cam Patterson's "Brutal" feature screenplay along with Tracy McMahon, Darcy Fehr, Aaron Hughes, Andrew Nolan, Jennifer Hoenig, Ashley Moore and Susie Moloney. Cam is a very talented screenwriter with a knack for well defined characters. Here's hoping this gets brought to the big screen.

May 17, 2008 - Ever hear of Utah Adams? Yep. I'll be working with him on a tv pilot this summer. Stay tuned for more details...

May 14, 2008 - Accepted the role in Chris Thede and Sunny Sidhu's office comedy "Work-a-holic". While I don't think I am, I have been accused several times of being a workaholic - at least when it comes to acting (and to a lesser extent vfx). But it's never work if you love what you do. Anyways - I do however still currently work in a cubicled office that seems to be based on the comic strip Dilbert, so I'm not lacking in any experience there, lol. Off the top of my head, (sorry for those I miss), I'm working the very talented and good friend, Chris Thede, as well as, for the 2nd movie in a row - Phil Wiseman, Ashely Hirt and Dana Kowalski, all directed by Sunny Sidhu. Should be some good times on set!

April 20, 2008 - That's a wrap for Aegri Somnia!

March 31, 2008 - Still filming 50+ hours/week on Aegri Somnia (in addition to my full time job, lol). Thought I'd post some pics of us goofing off behind the scenes, letting off some steam. Don't worry - these are all built sets in the studio - it's all paint. ;) See you in mid April!

January 26, 2008 - Another successful Murder Mystery, this time held at The Forks. My coherts in crime this time: Meghan Duffy, Daryle Dorge, Margaux Miller, Alan MacPherson, Terry Michalyshyn and Sunny Sidhu! Acting...friends...and an open bar...what more could one ask for?

January 14, 2008 - Started shooting the interior scenes for Aegri Somnia again! The majority of my time for the next few months will be focused on this movie. It will get intense in February.

December 19, 2007 - Filmed Tekla and Daniel Rundle's short "Juxtaposition" with Andrew Cecon. Nice quick scene shot in great weather. :)

December 6, 2007 - Did another Murder Mystery - this time at the King's Head for the Investor's Group. They had a blast, as did we! Big thanks to Meghan Duffy, Steve Gomari, Terry Michalyshyn, Sunny Sidhu, Margaux Miller and Alan MacPherson. I think we may have had a little too much fun to take a group picture this time, lol.

November 3, 2007 - Wrapped up our marathon shoot of exterior locations for Aegri Somnia. Big hand to all the crew that helped out. Sleep deprivation makes you do bad things. I was filming at the University of Manitoba Medical building and had makeup down by special effects artist Chris Hadley that made me look like I was severely beaten. I noticed some med students walking down the hall and decided to...pass out on the floor. They thought it was authentic enough to call security, but not enough to help me....did I mention these were medical students? LoL.

Sorry - no pics to be released just yet. We start shooting all the interior shots first thing in January. They have 2 months to build all the sets in studio - then we're going to make it all happen. Thanks to Nicole Marcynuk, Laura MacKay, Nadine Pinette and Ward Massner for our scenes we shot together. All very talented and even moreso - hot! Jealous? Yes, I think a lot of people are jealous that they got to work with me.... :P LoL.

Can't forget Warren Wiltshire, Erica Rintoul, David Dick, Johnny Marlow, Dave Duncan and Phil Wisman. These guys were kind enough to give me a break and shoot some scenes without me...a guy like me needs his beauty rest. I'm looking forward to 2008 when I get to work with each and every one of these talented actors directly.

Speaking of talent - Alchemical Press's Greg Comichuk and Ryan Bartel have plenty of it in multiple fields. I believe Greg was on set every single day. He was the wardrobe artist as well as wearing a few other hats. He also happens to be the artistic director of the film - designing all the costumes as well as the...well, let's leave that a secret. He's also a damn good comic book artist - check him out! I guess I could have included Ryan up above as he not only put together the "Shadow" costumes, but also controlled one of them. Is there anything this guy won't do for his art?

What can I say about Chris Hadley? Seriously. The guy is an absolute genious when it comes to visual effects with makeup...well, pretty much any kind of hands on visual effects. He also made an appearance or two in the actual film, as well as was instrumental as a crew member. Dan Grapco has to be the best grip I've ever worked with. The guy is incredible. He reminds me of Inspector Gadget - you ask him for anything - anything - and he has it on him. There is zero downtime when this guy is around. Colin Musulak captured all the audio as well as did a lot of grunt work. Watching Colin, Chris and Dan work so hard makes me...makes me so glad I'm an actor, lol. These guys are machines.

Mike Sanders was the Director of Photography. You'll hear his name again once the movie premieres. Beautiful...stunning...this does not look like your typical indie film by any stretch of the imagination. The cinematography will blow you away - I'm serious. I saw all the dailies....now as long as I don't screw up the acting - this puppy will be talked about.

Of course I have to say something about the creator of the movie - James Rewucki. Or was he the writer? Producer? Director? Yep...many, many hats this guy wears. His band Dr. Rage and the Uppercuts (Colin Musulak is the drummer) will have their hands involved in the music too. Was that plug too subtle? What can I say about James? He knows what he wants and has a great vision. I really think what will be created will...well, it won't look like it is local - take that however you want it. There is nothing typical about this film, and it is stylized in a particular way that I am excited about. If I missed anyone out - and I know I have because we had such a large crew - it was not on purpose - and I'll get you next time.

October 19, 2007 - November 3, 2007 - I'm shooting the exterior locations for Absurd Machine Film's feature "Aegri Somnia" from October 19 straight to November 3 everyday. We have some really nice locations locked down, like the Pinewa Falls Damn and the Grotto. Yes, these are the nights were I'm going to get 2-3 hours sleep as I'm continuing to do my "day job", lol. Apologies to everyone who tries to contact me - but I literally leave for the studio straight from work and don't get home until around 4-5am, and rarely have my cell with me when I'm on set. Call me during the day if you need a reply.

October 13, 2007 - Finished filming Holli Moncrieff and Will Antoniuk's "Halloween Funkadelic 2007: GHOST SHIP!" intro video, which promises to be a fantastic event. Actually, considering some of the costumes the females had last at last year's Funkadelic party, I KNOW it's going to be a good time, lol. There's prizes for the the best dressed costume, and my personal favorite - the best undressed! Sorry to get you all excited though, as tickets are all sold out if you don't have yours already. (Sadly, unless a miracle of time happens, I won't be able to attend this event live as I'll be shooting Aegri Somnia that night).

October 11, 2007 - Wrapped principal shooting of Cybernetic Showdown! Ok...I still have a flashback scene to do at some point, but it looks like I'm hanging up my cybernetic arm and drank my last Yop, lol.

October 7, 2007 - Completed the final shot of Menace.

Time to celebrate!

Staredown with Rick.

What? We didn't know someone had a camera on set...

Note how cold it is. Yeah, that's why those girls were on top of me in the tent when setting up the lights, and why I was so excited to be running around in my underwear, lol...
In the pics: Chris Thede, Amy Simoes, Jeff Wahl, Ian Stoesz and Tyhr Trubiak.

October 4, 2007 - Ok, I was hoping to hold off on this announcement until after the completion of the 2 films I'm currently doing - Menace and Cybernetic Showdown, but judging by my upcoming schedule, I'm going to be a bit pressed for time for such updates.

I've accepted the lead role of Edgar in the feature film Aegri Somnia. I'm very excited about this project and the level of production quality it brings. I believe this will be my most challenging role to date, and there is nothing I enjoy more than pushing myself to my limits and beyond. Aegri Somnia is a distrubing psychological thriller with dark gothic overtones. I also play a character that is against type - which is not an opportunity most actors get - especially when on a movie with a budget the size of Aegri Somnia.

For those that had inside knowledge of what my "official announcement" was - you'll know how much I believe in this project in order to postpone my original plans at the last minute in order to do Aegri Somnia. It was a large sacrifice on my part, but I believe it was the right choice. My "official announcement" is now on hold until further notice.

I hope to create some sort of calender/schedule on this website soon. I apologize to all my friends for how busy I've been lately, as well as I apologize to those other offers I had to turn down due to conflicts with my schedule. I hope to have something up in advance to help show when my availability is.

Menace is scheduled to be completed this Fri/Sat/Sun with only 1 other day shoot to take place.
Cybernetic Showdown has a few more dates, and should be completed before October 15.
The Manitoba Museum shot will be completed next weekend.
Voice over work for Flashes will only take a few mintues next week - cuz I'm that good. :P
Pre-production has already started for Aegri Somnia, and it is quickly ramping up. Costume fittings/camera tests/etc.

Shoot days for Aegri Somnia are: Oct 19 - Nov 1 straight, everyday, 5pm to midnight on weekdays...not sure on the times for the weekends.
So yes, 14 consecutive nights of shooting (plus my regular day job, lol).
Again - apologies to all my friends of whom I will be forced to neglect yet again. I also apologize to my non-existant social life, lol. I feel like this is last year again all over when I was shooting Among Thieves at the same time as performing Home for Unwed Fathers, and I had to tell everyone that November was the earliest I could see any of them, lol.
I'm afraid I'm saying that again now - unless I can squeeze you in before Oct 19 (but not today, [Fri, Sat, Sun] - Menace, [Mon, Tues] - Cybernetic Showdown, Wed - Aegri Somnia camera test or Friday - Aegri Somnia meeting. I guess Thurs Oct 11 is my next free evening, at least after I get groceries)...sometime in November is the most likely earliest time I'll have free...and I love it!

October 3, 2007 - Argh matey! I've accepted a role in the Manitoba Museum's upcoming Ghost Ship tours at Halloween Funkadelic.

September 30, 2007 - We're nearing the completion of principal photography on both Menace and Cybernetic Showdown. Here's some behind the scenes footage shot this weekend for Menace.

Steve Weins choking me out by barbwire.

I love the moon effect.

Not really a scene from the movie - at least not with that much clothes or the extra person - this was taken inbetween a lighting change. Sometimes acting is a really tough job and you just have to put up with things...other times it isn't so tough, lol. Thank you Amy and Jenna for being good sports and keeping me warm. :)

Long shot of our location.
In the pics: Steve Wiens, Amy Simoes, Jenna Ullenboom and Tyhr Trubiak.

August 31, 2007 - Ok, it's been a while since I've made an update. We've almost completed shooting Cybernetic Showdown and have only a few days left. We shot a few weekends of Menace, but due to...technical difficulties...we don't start shooting again until Sept 14. Not a problem for me as shooting 2 features at the same time doesn't leave me with a lot of personal time, lol.

As for my "official announcement"...I'm afraid that I have to postpone that announcement until sometime in 2008. Those of you who actually knew what it was will know what an extremely difficult choice I had to make in pushing this back. On the flip side, I have an extremely good reason for making this decision...and I will let you know what that reason is very soon...
I'll leave you with some stills from Cybernetic Showdown and Menace...

In the pics: Jenna Ullenboom, Nicholas Palinka, Amy Simoes, Jeff Wahl, Veronica Ternopolski, Ian Russell, Darren Felbel, Jay Van Deventer and Tyhr Trubiak

July 17, 2007 - OK, I start shooting Ian Russell's feature-length action/comedy "Cybernetic Showdown" this weekend. Once August hits, I'll also be shooting Chris Vandale's feature-length Horror/Thriller Menace. Upon completion of these 2 movies, I should be making an official announcement.

June 5, 2007 - Another Murder Mystery successfully completed at the Delta Hotel. David Dick, Meghan Duffy, Terry Michalyshyn, Sunny Sidhu, Lois Brothers and Brodie Sanderson rounded out the cast members for this gunshot filled wild event of mayhem.

May,25 2007 - Completed stage readings for the Carol Shields Festival hosted in the Colin Jackson Theatre (PTE), with Nancy Drake, Donna Fletcher, Steven Ratzlaff, Heidi Malazdrewich, Ntara Curry and Marsha Knight directed by Hope McIntyre.

May,20 2007 - Finished shooting "Techs", a fun comedy about television station employees, directed by NSI award winning alumni - Tyson Koschik (Changing Rooms). I got to work directly with all familiar and talented faces in Mathew Stefanson and Nic Ouellette. Avital Ludwig, Jenny Pudavick and Donald Nordman round out the rest of the cast. Can't wait to see the finished product. Oui! Oui! (Yes, this is the one where I had a French Canadian accent). ;)

May,19 2007 - At 4:30pm on Saturday, May 26 at the Colin Jackson Theatre (PTE), I'll have the honor to perform 4 staged readings along with such acclaimed actors in Nancy Drake, Donna Fletcher, Steven Ratzlaff, Heidi Malazdrewich, Ntara Curry and Marsha Knight at the Carol Shields Festival of New Works 2007 directed by Hope McIntyre.
Selections from works in progress by Michelle Amaya-Torres, Mira Black, Joy Eidse, Hope McIntyre, Cairn Moore, and Anne Nesbitt will be read and great celebration shall ensue.

Make sure you stay - because following our show will be a reading from good friend and famous Fringe musical playwrite Joseph Aragon's Lucrezia Borgia. Knowing how fast his shows always sell out at Fringe - here's your chance for an early peek.

Admission is free! For more information on this or other shows (Festival officially starts on Thursday), visit www.pte.mb.ca.

May 3, 2007 - Completed shooting Dean Harder's short film "Questions For God". Good friends David Dick and Lois Brothers were also there, but sadly we never had any scenes together. But we did share some good stories.

April 23, 2007 - I'll be playing Brady in Chris Vandale's feature film "Menace", which will be shot in August.

April 12, 2007 - I've accept the role of Turch, the perverted French Canadian for Tyson Koschik's "Techs" a "Totally Television Winner 2006". Working on my French accent now, because I have the other down pat, lol. We shoot May Long Weekend.

March 31, 2007 - Completed the final - yes final - scenes of Cam Patterson's Flashes with special thanks to the all the hard-working crew, and DOP Steve Morrison, Claude Savard and Richardo Alms.
I got to work again with the very talented Lisa Ann Durupt, Tim Horch, Warren Bard and Tony Desmarteau.
Special thanks to Brie Tait for the doing my makeup and the difficult job of rubbing a KY jelly mix on me, and to Lauren Martin for costuming me...even though I seemed to be half-naked more than I expected...

When the props include handcuffs, KY jelly and a bed - you know you're in for a long night, lol. Unfortunetely none of those things were in the same scene together. ;) But the food was great!

March 19, 2007 - Read excerpts from plays written by PTE's playwriting class: Melissa Turner, Shelby Reinitz, Louesa Polyzio, Jason Biossonneault and one other person - but she didn't have her name on the play I received, and I have a bad memory. :( I got to read with 3 other actresses that I've had the pleasure of working with before: Liv, Mel and Lorraine. I'll edit this with their last names as soon as I verify their spelling, lol. I don't want to offend anyone. Why is my memory failing me today? Of course, my personal fav - Hope McIntyre is the teacher.

March 3, 2007 - Completed filming Reed Makayev's Operation Splashguard with Meghan Duffy, Phil Witman and Steve Washen.

February 10, 2007 - Completed shooting Paul Boge's "The Elevator" with some great friends: Carey Smith, Meghan Duffy and Heather Sagmeister, DOP'd by Tim Horch. This is Paul's submission to Steven Spielberg's On The Lot reality show. Paul H. Boge is an accomplished author with currently 3 published novels, and 3 films under his belt.

January 20, 2007 - I've been accused of MURDER!  I'm one of 5 suspects in the CSI: Manitoba Musuem interactive exhibit. After viewing the crime scene, you will proceed to the forensics lab in the Science Gallery where you will compare and analyze fingerprints, DNA samples, hair and fiber examples and handwriting found at the crime scenes.  Solve the crime with the correct killer, and your ballot will be entered for a draw to an an-expense paid trip to one of the cities where the CSI television series is filmed (New York, Las Vegas or Miami). The location of the five-day trip is the winner's choice. Contest rules can be found here. Good luck!

Dr. Roland Stickleback, the Curator of Zoology.

January 2, 2007 -
Reminder - Ian Russell's dark comedy feature "The Killing Death" will be premiering at the Park Theatre on January 4, 2007.

I'll also use this opportunity to quickly put up a few quick sneak pictures of "Flashes" captured by Richardo Alms.

On the set of Flashes

...waiting for them to call action?

Mimicing Ty Roger's paintings in the background.

The lovely Toni Reimer and Lisa Anne Durupt.

Geoff Trubiak frantically waving his hands to try and keep up with Cam Patterson and Steve Morrison's directions, lol.
Nah, seriously, this pic of part of the crew just looks like cool '50s to me.

December 16, 2006 - And that's a wrap! Finished the final scene for the "CSI: Manitoba Museum" film, directed by John Barnard of Farpoint Films. I played tea sipping Roland Stickleback, the curator of Zoolology, who is a prime suspect in a murder case. I primarily worked with the ever-so-famous David Dick, yet again, (this is what? Our 3rd project together in just the last few months?) and Dean Harder (which this is also the 3rd time working with...). I also had a brief scene with the lovely Sandra McNeill. Although I never had a scene with him, good friend Darren Felbel was also on set, and we were able to catch up off-screen. I think this marks movie #5 that we've both been in together, lol.

Also, since this was shot at the Manitoba Museum, the kind folks working there let me explore their entire facility unsupervised after hours. There's definitely a different feeling walking through the immense setups after hours with nobody to interrupt you, although Dean Harder and Sandra McNeill have me a bit of a scare. Amazing stuff - lots to learn - you all should check out the museum if you haven't visited lately.

Alright - I think that's all the acting work I'll be doing this year. At least that's all that's planned...
I still have many scene that require visual effects for me to composite in, so I'm still going to be a busy boy, lol.

Happy Holidays!

December 15, 2006 - Ian Russell's dark comedy feature "The Killing Death" will be premiering at the Park Theatre on January 4, 2007. I play the fresh-faced rookie cop Jimmy who along with my Naked Gun-esque partner Frank, played by Jeremy Dangerfield, bumble along while trying to solve a string of murders.

Monika DeLeeuw-Taylor of MicroFilmmaker Magazine reviewed "Tan Man" which surprisingly only had an NC-17 rating.
Love it or hate it - you're not going to forget it:

  - "Perhaps the best part of Tan Man was the acting. The principal characters did an excellent job."
  - "...the dialogue in this film makes it possibly the most offensive film I have ever seen."
  - "It makes all the deleted scenes from every Kevin Smith movie seem like exerpts from Bambi."

December 12, 2006 - Finished a last minute additional scene for the movie Flashes. Ok, now I'm wrapped. :)

December 7, 2006
- ...and yet another night of murder again. This time with Daryl Dorge, Meghan Duffy, Carey Smith, Terry Michalyschyn, Stephen Gomari and Nichole Lahaie.

November 25, 2006
- Finished another night of murder....a Murder Mystery that is. I hosted the even with, and I'll list them as I announced them at the event, the Devilish Daryl Dorge, Magnificant Meghan Duffy, Charasmatic Carey Smith, Tenacious Terry Michalyshyn, Luscious Lois Brothers and Super sexy-slueth Stephen Gomari.

Good friends, good audience, and an open bar - what more could one ask for? It was a good night. :)

Went the King's Head afterwards to celebrate more, and met a really nice couple from Island Lake - "hi". Also ran into a friend from a while ago, Keira Lee, who played my sister in the movie "Sparks". Keira's song "Serenity" is playing on Hot103 now. A former country singer, Keira now sings pop. Check her out - she's going to go places.

November 21, 2006
- Completed shooting a 20+ minute short tentatively called "Obvious", written and directed by Cam Patterson. It's always "above and beyond" pleasure working on a Cam Patterson script, as his characters are always deep and developed so richly. Steve Morrison was behind the cameras (we used 2 at a time thanks to Claude Savard), and I was quite impressed with what I was able to see. The artistic direction/props were handled by the ever so famous and personable Ricardo Alms. Hats off (no, that's not a pun for Ricardo, lol) to the rest of the crew who worked so hard into the wee (4am on a weeknight) hours.

While I didn't work directly with Lisa Anne Dupurt (even though she played my wife, LoL), I will say that her vocal acting was quite...realistic. I would also bet on her to win any staring competition. :)

Now for the big news - which I'm sure most of you already know anyways. I got to work with one of my favorite actresses of all time - Toni Reimer!  I first met Toni when we did the play Miss/es together (she was a theatre buff). I convinced her to try film, and I had the pleasure of working with Toni in her first film, "Figment". So I consider myself an extremely lucky man. I got to work with Toni in her first film, and this one which is quite possibly her last one (in Winnipeg) for a while...

Congratulations Toni! For those of you that don't know, Toni was been accepted to Studio 58 (very prestigious full-time acting school) in Vancouver, and will be attending this January. I'm really excited for Toni, and wish her all the best! I know we'll work together again in the future, so study hard! :)

Pictures from the set coming soon

November 14, 2006
- Worked the whole day at the Manitoba Law Society acting as a client for lawyers during an interview exam. While I usually don't comment on events such as this on this website (because it's a different kind of "acting" and it doesn't go on my resume, LoL), I ran into some good actors friends while there. Shout out to Lorraine James and Darren Felbel.

November 4, 2006
- That's a wrap! Principal photography has now been completed for FireGate Films feature "Among Thieves". I've noticed that the majority of pictures I've included for "Among Thieves" has guns in it. It's ironic, as this is not an "action" or "gun" movie, but rather a very intricate conspiracy theory thriller. But the problem is - I think guns look sexy! LOL...

Thanks to everyone involved! Now I'll be helping out with the VFX in the post-production...

November 1, 2006 - Sci-Fi series The Dark will be publically premiering the first 2 pilot episodes at Park Theatre on Osborne St. at 7pm on Thursday, November 9, 2006 - admission is free.

October 27, 2006 - Completed our final show of "The Home for Unwed Fathers" at PTE to a very positive crowd. Thank you to all who came to show their support, I really appreciated that. I was worried about the final 2 performances since my hectic schedule finally caught up to me (2 evenings free for all October).  I had fallen ill and was concerned about losing my voice - which never happened. In fact, I even surprised a few people. :)  One long time supporter told me she had a hard time "recognizing" me on stage due to my posture, movement and voice. Considering I didn't wear makeup or a costume - I'll take that as a big compliment. I love playing against type. :)

Thank you to everyone in the cast and behind the scenes, and to all those that organized everything.

Happy birthday to my director Eileen Longfield. I'm sorry I couldn't stick around after the show for your celebration - I had to go straight home to bed. Couldn't even make my premier that night at Cinematheque for "Blacks Bears Eat Carrion".

October 26, 2006 - Shot more scenes for Among Thieves downtown. I thought I'd put up a few pics from previous nights.

Director Paul H. Boge and I while he gives me some direction. I find the pic funny as it looks like I'm totally bored. But how can I be bored - can't you see that the beer in front of me is almost empty. :)

Me, and 2 of my best friends - the DOP Chris Radtke and star David Dick. I won't tell you what David is measuring...but it's true. ;)

Some people will give you the shirt off their backs. Others, like director Paul H. Boge, will give you their socks. Notice how he has longjohns on, and I'm running around outside with a thin jacket and no headgear? LoL, no wonder I got sick. But I have to admit, I ran faster with the new and improved socks. :)

Beautiful stairwell - I really love some of our interior shots.
The beautiful people following me are: Carla Penner, Paul Boge and Chris Radtke. Ok, well maybe just Carla is, but the rest of us have "inner beauty"... :)

There are so many great people working behind the scenes, and not enough pictures of them. Of course maybe if I stopped hacking up all the time and wearing Vicks Vaporub as cologne, they might be more inclined to be near me for more pics, LoL.

October 24, 2006 -
After our second run of "The Home for Unwed Fathers", Lisa Best grilled Jason Boissonneault and I with some very challenging and personal questions.  I'm not sure how many of them will make it to air, but Lisa is definitely very good at what she does. Many of our scenes and interviews can be found on the various local channels.

October 18, 2006 - "Black Bears Eat Carrion", a short film I did with Philip Paskewitz a few years ago, will be premiering at Cinematheque at the Halloween Film Massacre on Friday, October 27 at 9pm. I can't guarantee my own personal attendence, as you'll note below that my final night of performance in "The Home for Unwed Fathers" takes place that night too - but I'll try to make both.

Also, watch CBC and CTV for their media coverage and promotion of "The Home for Unwed Fathers".
October 17, 2006 - I'll be performing "The Home for Unwed Fathers", directed by Eileen Longfield, at PTE (Colin Jackson Theatre - 3rd floor Portage Place) during this years FemFest on the following dates:
  • Sunday, Oct 22 @ 7pm
  • Tuesday, Oct 24 @2pm
  • Saturday, Oct 27 @ 7pm

The play is a light-hearted comedic approach in an alternate universe where males are the ones who show the physical symptoms during the time of pregnancy. I run the home for unwed fathers, where unbonded males are dropped off, and the trouble starts.

Nan Fewchuck - Geoff Trubiak - Jane Burpee
Joseph Aragon -Jason Boissonneault - William O'Donnell

NOTE - this picture was taken during the early stages of rehearsal. There have been some significant character changes since...well...at least a significant change with mine, LoL. You'll have to see the play in person to see what exactly I'm talking about.

October 14, 2006 - Was on Ron Robinson's Weekend Morning Show on CBC Radio promoting our upcoming play "Home For Unwed Fathers".

*I have somewhat "disturbing" news. I found out the real reason why we did not shoot one of our scenes at the Forks for "Among Thieves" last weekend. The cast was not told why we were not shooting one of the scenes, and I just assumed we ran out of time. Now while all the official papers, permits and authorizations were completed for our shoot day at the Forks, and all the safety precautions were followed - one particular individual thought himself above all others and considered the safety precautions to be a waste of his time for someone of his "standing".

First, understand that due to the live gunfire during some scenes, we could not have unauthorized people walking into the line of fire - standard practise. So for the times were were rolling film, certain entrances were blocked off for no more than 5 minutes at a time. Alternate entrances were still fully available during these times, but most people actually stayed to watch.

Except for one person who felt the need to abuse his power of influence and threaten certain shop owners for his delay in getting his coffee fix. Sam Katz - I voted for you last time, but I won't this time. Despite your propaganda, you obviously are against film making progress in our city, as I judge people by their actions, not their words.

One would think that of all times, election campaign time would be the time to walk over and shake the hands of the director instead of acting like a bully and refusing to return his calls for an explanation. Anybody that knows me knows well, knows my intense hatred of bullies as well as my dislike of people who wish to impede progress.

The irony is, I am not a political person. I wasn't planning on voting this time at all.
Sam Katz - I will not be voting for you. I will instead choose to support whoever shows they support local film production in Winnipeg.

October 1, 2006 - Had a blast spending the day running around The Forks shooting guns, LoL. Dave Brown was on set again to supervise our big gun shootout for Among Thieves, and we had a nice little crowd watching us as we made loud booms. :)  Saw a couple of old friends while there too - life is like a roller coaster right now. :)

September 26, 2006 - Was able to sneak out of rehearsal early and make it to the premiere of Tan Man at Park theatre. Got to meet up with a few friends while I was there - kinda been losing touch with some people, just not enough hours in the day. Currently juggling Home for Unwed Fathers (play) rehearsals with shooting Among Thieves (feature film), and I believe October 23 is my next "free" evening.
September 8, 2006 - Completed a session of ADR for The Dark at Absurd Machine Studio. I was also the final person to complete their ADR, which means the first episode of The Dark is nearing it's completion.
October 31, 2006 - I've been cast in the upcoming production CSI: Manitoba Museum as the prim and proper academically inclined Dr. Roland Stickleback to be shot in early October...uhm...I think I have 1 day free in October, LoL. :)
August 19, 2006 - Tan Man will be showing on Tuesday, September 26 at 8pm in Park Theatre. Tickets are available either through me or at Cafe Emilio 111-131 Provencher, Wpg (204) 235-1230 for $5. This movie is UNRATED, and I must advice a very coarse language warning is in effect as well as brief nudity.

Synposis ::

Enzo is a hard working guy who works in his Uncles tanning salon. One day his Uncle Joe asks Enzo for a favor; to pick-up a lotion of illegal tanning lotion that he invested money in. Uncle Joe tells Enzo that if he does this he will pay for Enzo's school. Enzo reluctantly agrees and gets a few helping hands from his friends on this little journey. Trying to make this easy pick-up, the guys begin to realize that they got themselves involved into  something much bigger, and more dangerous than they perviously thought.

August 12, 2006 -
I'm sad to announce I jumped the gun, and since some time has past, I've decided to write an explanation instead of correcting this page below.

For the upcoming movie "Among Thieves", FireGate Films and Actra did not come to an agreement - which means that Actra will not permit their members to participate in this film. :(  That is too bad, as I really do believe this is a quality script.

So while both Toni Reimer and Jeff Skinner were offered their respective parts, I will have to wait until another project to work with either of them again.
August 8, 2006 - Figment is playing tonight at The Grind (Ellice Cafe and Theatre).
July 24, 2006 - I've officially accepted the role of Jesse in FireGate Films feature-length movie "Among Thieves". Jesse is a underground government agent who is sent in to clean up...potential problems...problems that never officially exist. The movie is a factually based "conspiracy" thriller about the US's involvement in the Iraq invasion. I am really looking forward to working on this film. What's even more exciting, is that I get to work with some of my closest friends: David Dick, Toni Reimer and Meghan Duffy.

July 11, 2006 - Finished shooting the final scene of the feature-length comedy "The Killing Death".

July 9, 2006 - Just finished an intense workshop with actress/coach Amy Lyndon from LA. It was here that I received what I consider to be my biggest compliment in acting. Thank you Amy and everyone else attending for making it such an education weekend.
June 24, 2006  - Performed a dramatic reading from a scene of "The Home for Unwed Fathers" at PTE for the FemFest Caberet.
June 13, 2006 - I've accepted the role of "Andrew" the play "The Home for Unwed Fathers", directed by Eileen Longfield set to show at PTE in late October for the 4th annual FemFest.
June 6, 2006 - I've accepted the role of "Jimmy", the fresh faced rookie cop in Ian Russell's feature film "The Killing Death".

May 31, 2006 - That's a wrap! We completed shooting my scenes for episode 1 of THE DARK of Absurd Machine Films and Chris Poronzy Productions. I worked directly with David Dick and Jacqueline Bissoon in some very physical scenes. The complete cast list of course is much larger, but I'll have to direct you to THE DARK  website for the full information. I wish I could, but I really cannot reveal too much of what takes place. All I can say is that I'm really impressed with the rough footage I've seen so far. I'll tease you with a couple of still shots taken from Monday's shoot:

Assessing the situation...

First you should always attempt to solve problems with clear communication...

All problems can be solved with the proper tool.

May 22, 2006 - Completed shooting Sean Simes Family Portrait starring Jeff Wahl. Driving around in a Hummer is tough work, but somebody has to do it.

May 20, 2006 - Sat on The Dark panel at KeyCon in front of an eager audience in order to help promote The Dark. Interest is buzzing.

May 19, 2006 - I've just been asked to work on the stunt choreography as well as portray the killer in Sean Simes "Family Portrait" movie. We're shooting this all weekend, so it should keep me busy.

April 23, 2006 - I can now announce that I'll be working in the new 3 year episodic webcast (watch via the web, cell phone or PDA)  THE DARK, co-produced with Absurd Machine Films and Chris Poronzy Productions. Should make for an interesting summer.

As some of you may know, I am a huge science fiction fan. My favorite television movie/show of all time is Ron Moore's recently re-imaged Battlestar Galactica. I believe THE DARK promises to share some of the same themes I cherish in Battlestar Galactica with it's harsher and darker perceptions of both the world around us as well as a voyueristic and rough documentary view of human emotions when they are pushed beyond their limits. While technically classified as "science fiction", Battlestar Galactica is more accurately an epic documentary of human relationships at the height of apocolyptical despair that just happens to take place on another world. I find it ironic that it is by far the most realistic show I have seen. On a side note, while Battlestar Galactica has spoiled me to the point where I am not only disappointed with most television shows, but I find most Hollywood movies failing in comparison, I will admit that I am a fan of Grey's Anatomy. I should note too, that while I do have eccentric tastes, BSG has already won the Peabody Award this year and the 2005 Hugo Award as well as bringing the Sci-Fi channel the highest ratings it's ever had, so I can't be the only one... Oh, and take note - not only is it filmed in Vancouver, BC, but our Canadian actors are strongly represented (all while not looking like a "Canadian" show).

But I digress as usual. I'll provide more information on THE DARK (which will be filmed in Winnipeg, and represented primarily by Winnipeg actors) if and when I can. As you can tell, I take my tv watching seriously. :)

April 22, 2006  - That's a wrap! We finished shooting Chris Vandale's The Two Faces of John Hastings. Many thanks to Chris Simes of MindShackleFilms for his house and input into the film. More info to follow.

April 5, 2006 - Two screenings this month I thought I should mention:

Figment will be playing at the IFP film festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota this April 8.

Tan Man will be playing at the Indie Can Film Festival in Toronto, Ontario on April 28.

March 21, 2006 - A big congratulations to two of my closest friends, Tracy McMahon and Toni Reimer for both getting speaking roles in the upcoming Disney movie "The Lookout" shooting here in Winnipeg. I can't say enough good things about them, or express how happy I am.

In other news, I've just accepted the lead role in Chris Vandale's "Two Faces of John Hastings". Which I'm very excited to do because, well, because I play both of two faces of John and we all know how much of a secret camera whore I am... LoL. I'm also excited because I get to work with Andrea Shawcross, since we've only officially done plays together up until this point.  That, plus I also am a big fan of pyschological horror/thrillers. This is one part of a multi-taled story incorporated into a feature-length film.

In non-acting related news (although I did have dinner with Steve Hoban, winner of an Oscar and a Gemini for Ryan and Gingersnaps...ahem) I just came back from a weeklong trip that I could clasify as "life altering". I couldn't do the trip justice by writing about it here, but I just want to give a big shoutout to Gordon Lewer, who is now a very positive influence in my life, and I am ever so grateful to have him in my life. I have a much better understanding of who I am thanks to him. Hi Gord!

The Trubiak men have come for your women and food - beware!

"Any impersonation of the Rolling Stones or the Rolling Stone logo is purely coincidental. Side-effects may vary."

March 20, 2006 - Performed dramatic readings of 3 original plays written by the 2nd level playwrite class at Prairie Theatre Exchange taught by Hope McIntyre. Fellow thespians and friends Toni Reimer, Lorraine James, Cheryl Soluk were there as well as I met Heidi (who's last name was too long for me to remember).

March 18, 2006 - I was a test dummy for Doug as he was trying to perfect "no eyebrow" prosthetics for the upcoming movie "The Good Life".

February 12, 2006 - Another successful Murder Mystery at Calhoon's in Brandon, MB. A big thanks to Stephen Gomari, Nichole Lahaie,  Alisson Amigo, Mathew Stefanson, and Dr. T - Terry!

January 22, 2006  - Completed shooting Cecilia Araneda's short Experimental 16mm film "Imprint with Kelly Wolfman, and shot by Paul Suderman.

January 14, 2006 - Happy New Year! A Russian cable show based in Toronto interviewed me and the cast of Tan Man about the movie and our impressions on the indy film scene in Canada. Pretty cool.

November 13, 2005 - Tan Man, the feature we shot this summer just finished showing in the Lower East Side Film Festival in New York city and won the Critics Choice award. I find it a bit ironic since I thought critics would be the last people who would like this movie considering the genre is was engineered for, LoL Those New Yorkers can keep you on your toes.

What's a Critic's Choice award? Think we'll get groupies?...

October 29, 2005 - Finished a dramatic reading of Jane Baskwill's very moving play "Adie's Postcards", directed by the renowned Nancy Drake for this year's FemFest. I had the pleasure to work with the some very well known Thespian's such as the extremely gifted and accomplished Doreen Brownstone, who just stole my heart on the too few days I worked with her. This was also my first time working with Ti Hallas, Melanie Whyte and Deborah Perry, who all have extensive experience in the theatre community. I also got to work with Cheryl Soluk again, which of course is always a pleasure.

I was also able to take in more  FemFest plays this year, and I was glad to be able to see some of my friends perform (because in past years, the schedule didn't allow me to see as many shows). Congratulations to Avital Ludwig, Toni Reimer, Dan Kern, Lorraine James and Melissa Dionisio, I loved all your performances. My apologies to the shows I was unable to see. :(  And thank you again to Hope McIntyre for having me in FemFest again this year.

October 15, 2005 - Completed Nick Frieson's "Random Musings of a Girl Named Daphna" with Heather Sagmeister. I haven't worked with Heather since before she had her baby, Phoenix, so it was nice to get updated on what she's been up to. The shoot was quite relaxed and went really fast. Nick called us "One take wonders". :)  I hope he wasn't just trying to conserve film. LoL

September 30, 2005 - The TanMan is complete! Some of the actors and friends were treated to the official pre-screening of the completed TanMan movie...and the world may never be the same. Director Gary Teperman will be flying back to Toronto to pimp this movie out and hopefully work out a distribution deal.

September 26, 2005 - I've accepted a role in Nick Friesen's movie tentatively called "Random Musings of a Girl Named Daphna". Uhmm... I'm not Daphna. This is an ambitious project and I'm sure half of the acting community will be involved due to the largeness of the cast. I'm looking forward to working with Heather Sagmeister again.

Hopefully this keeps me pre-occupied, as I believe two other projects I've agreed to do have fallen through. Of course there's still one more "special project" I've agreed to do that I do believe will still be done, as it's supposed to happen October/November (just in case he's reading this). I wish I could elaborate more on this one, as I'm very excited about it, but I don't want to at this point in time...a wise man keeps his mouth shut...

September 23, 2005 - Kevin Nikkel's politically charged movie "Baggage" screened at the Cinematheque, which was as good excuse as any to catch up with my fellow actors Toni Reimer, Kelly Wolfman and Karl Jones as well as see some familiar friendly faces. This was our first chance to see the re-edited version of the movie (as the first version was shot and edited in under 48 hours, due to the contest rules).

September 19, 2005 - Another successful Murder Mystery! This time at the MTS Center in Winnipeg where I was joined by the usual suspects of Tracy N. McMahon, Avital Ludwig, and Stephen Gomari, as well as 3 newcomers, Nic Ouellette, Andrew Nolan and Darren Felbel.

August 27, 2005 - It looks like I will be able to keep my streak of performing at FemFest. I've been offered a role in a dramatic reading. Hey, it's not everyday that I'm told I'm "too young" for the other parts. :) I'm just glad they can fit me in somewhere, haha.

August 23, 2005 - That's a wrap! After re-shooting a scene this morning at 6am, we are finished. Only post-production is left for this movie, with a projected completion time to be less than 2 months. Well, that and a few cast parties along the way. LOL

I've also changed the format of my picture page - you may have to delete your old cache in order to see the new one. Ahh, I like Mozilla, but if you use FireFox like I do to browse, certain features just won't work like they do in Internet Explorer.

August 19, 2005 - I've agreed to host another "Murder Mystery" on September 19 at the  Winnipeg Hotel. It's been confirmed that Tracy McMahon will be participating as well. Hopefully I'll be able to work with the same crew that took the roadtrip to Brandon.

August 8, 2005 - We've finished shooting week 1 of The TanMan, and have 2 more weeks to go! I'm having a blast filming this. The locations have been nothing short of amazing. Wish I could say more about it, but I have to keep the surprise. :)

July 28, 2005 - We won Best in Fest! I've been having a blast all this week during the Fringe Festival. Fat Tuesday won Best in Fest, and we'll have an extra performance Saturday at noon because of it. Kinda puts a damper to my "get really drunk after Friday's late show" plan. Oh well, it's my 2nd Best of Fest, so I should feel blessed.

Fat Tuesday Pic I'll try to find a better quality pic later...

The response has been quite good. I have to admit, I enjoy the number of people coming up to me in the beer tent and telling me I have a nice ass (there's a nudity warning in the play). The vast majority of people have been male to be honest, and I'm finding a much renewed appreciation for these people who aren't afraid to speak their minds. I just like an appreciative and enthusiastic audience.  :)  A few people made nice comments about my Georgian accent, and one of those guys lived in Georgia for a while. I appreciated those comments as well.

Mainly it's been "nice ass" or "nice accent", but John Chase's " To me, the shining light of the cast was Geoff Trubiak as Loren's hotel attendant Maurice..." was quite unexpected. Since we start shooting the feature-film The TanMan next week, I've been in rehearsals for the movie during the Fringe performances and rehearsals. I was only able to commit myself to "supportive" role for the Fringe due to my time constraints. Originally my main character (I play a few) in Fat Tuesday did not even have a name, so to be singled out in a review was quite surprising - but flattering. (Unfortunetly for us, the review was not positive as a whole, but as always, I appreciate the honesty). The reviews and opinions on the CBC website have been quite positive as a whole.

I've met a lot of new friends this week. I've been able to talk to some of the cast members of Boy Groove, who I absolutely LOVE. (I saw them twice 2 years ago, and saw them again this year). A big special thanks to my friends in the cast of The TanMan, who came as a group to the show. It was even more special to me as for some reason as my only downer lately seems to be that I've seen so few familiar faces come to show. Oh well, time for me to move on...

June 29, 2005 - That's a wrap...maybe. We finished shooting the newly redone Jason Berger movie, which was formerly known as The Case of the Dead Eccentric (due to technical difficulties, this had to be re-written and re-shot). I got to work with Darren Felbel for the first time, and loved every minute of it. I hope I get to work with him again.

June 26, 2005 - It's official - I can drive a motorcycle on the road! I've been wanting to get my motorcycle license this year, and just needed a "kickstart", if you'll excuse the pun. Unfortunetely the "kickstart" was me losing a role on Falcon Beach because I could not drive a motorcycle legally, and would not be able to obtain one by the time of shooting.  :(  I took the earliest test that was available - and man did it rock! When I leave Manitoba, getting a bike will jump up in my priorities for sure! (Manitoba is the worst province in Canada for bike insurance, so unless that changes....)

And congratulations to my sister Jodi (now Jodi Pawlachuk) for being interviewed on CanWest Global as the Coach of the Month. :)

June 18, 2005 - I'm a little slow on my updates now. I'm currently balancing my Fat Tuesday (Fringe) rehearsals, The Tanman (feature movie) rehearsals, and re-shooting Jason Berger's movie. Due to some techinical difficulties, it looks like the audio was lost on the footage, so we've been improvising to meet Jason's deadline.

On to news - "Hockey Life in Canada" won second place at the annual MAP show by audience voting. Yay!

June 6, 2005 - Alright, I'm wrapped on the shooting of Jason Berger's "The Case of the Dead Eccentric". I finished up my final scenes with Jason Mitchell and the ever so positive Tracy N. McMahon. This was the third movie that we appeared in together, and yet Tracy has still yet to become jaded. LoL. Ahh, I love working with her.

So now all that is offically left at the moment is the "Hockey Life in Canada" play this weekend, "Fat Tuesday" for the Fringe and a couple of feature films: "The TanMan" and "Oasis". Maybe some of my recent auditions will pay off, and I'll never have to sleep again. LoL. You have to love the energy summertime brings to the industry.

June 5, 2005  - Feature length movies are turning into my flavor of the week I think. I've accepted the role of Blake in JJ Alerie's vampire flick Oasis. Vampires have always held a special place in my heart, and now I may get the chance to put someone else's heart in a special place...

June 4, 2005 - I've accepted the role of Joey P in Gary Teperman's feature-length movie The Tanman. I know I'm really going to enjoy bringing this character to life, because he's going to have, well, a lot of character. Throw in a little vulgararity, and hint of crudeness, a dash of a cocky attitude, my drop dead model good looks and a case of beer - and you gots yourselves Joey P baby! Hide your ho's, 'cause big Joey's comin' to town.

June 2, 2005 - I've moved into my house! Things are a little chaotic to say the least, and things are just getting busier and busier for me in the acting world.

May 18, 2005 - I've accepted a role in Primrose's latest creation for the Fringe Festival, "Fat Tuesday". The last time I did a piece written by Primrose was actually my first time in the Fringe Festival, when we did Spin, which ultimately won the "Best in Fest" award.

"Fat Tuesday", for those of you who don't know is "Mardi Gras" (Cajun country), which is a legal holiday in New Orleans. It's been 3 years since I last set foot on Bourbon street, and I'm not sure everything I did there was...legal. I sure miss it though, so hopefully this play can bring back a few of my lost memories...

Speaking of lost memories, I was in Portage La Prairie yesterday...in the school library (PCI). We decided to take our rehearsals for "Hockey Life in Canada" on the road, LoL. I'd tell you more, but you know the saying, "What happens on the road stays on the road". Let's just say there were some hockey sticks broken, tape whipping around, and the stage manager, Julie, telling me that I should wear fishnet stockings...

May 15, 2005 - Debbie Patterson and I performed a dramatic reading of "Ruth & Robert & Robert & Ruth" in the Carol Shields Festival in order to fine tune this piece for a full production during the upcoming FemFest. Although the crowd was a modest size, their feedback after the event more than made up for it.

Debbie is a founding member of Shakespeare in the Ruins and  the former Artistic Director of the Popular Theatre Alliance of Manitoba. I don't have enough space here to list all of her credentials, but needless to say it was quite an honor for me to work along side such an amazing actor. Make sure you check her out this year's Shakespeare in the Ruins, as she will be in it.

May 14, 2005 - I had another "Yaremchuk Experience". I was helping the Director's class at the Winnipeg Film Group (as an actor), and to my surprise, there was Michael Yaremchuk teaching. Anytime I can get in front of the camera when Mike is behind it is a good thing in my books. For those of you who don't know him, Michael was the Director of Photography for Figment. If you saw Figment and knew our budget, you'd understand.

I'd like tell you that he's the best damn DOP in Winnipeg, but the guy is hardly ever here!  He's off to Montreal next week, then is shooting all over the world - I couldn't keep up with the locations - Turkey, Japan, Germany...then he said something about northern Manitoba. Mike, if you read this, good luck in Montreal...

May 1, 2005 - I'll be performing a dramatic reading of "Ruth & Robert & Robert & Ruth" by Mary Humphrey Baldridge with Debbie Patterson  on Sunday, May 15 at PTE as part of the Carol Shields Festival . I'm really looking forward to this event. I've read the script over once already, and I find myself really connecting with this very challenging piece. My favorite theatrical director, Hope McIntyre, will be orchastrating the show.

If you're keeping track at home, this can be considered the 4th time I've had the honor of working under Hope's direction for a publicly performed show. I can't say enough good things about her, other than I am a very, very lucky man - and I feel my strength as an actor grows each time she works with me.

April 30, 2005 - We completed the "prison interview" scene involving Dan Kern, Jason Mitchell and myself in "The Case of the Dead Eccentric". Unfortunetely there was a unforseen ... complication with our female lead, and this role will now have to be re-cast. This has resulted in a minor setback with scheduling. Filming will continue at a later date.

April 19, 2005 - OK, it's been a while since I've updated this. I only have a few minutes for this update, so I'll make it brief. I had my first rehearsal for a MAP play called "Hockey Life in Canada" to be performed at MTC Warehouse June 10, 11.

Somewhere in there, I've accepted the part of Donald in a short movie called "The Case of the Dead Eccentric", where I play the lawyer researching an interesting case. We have rehearsals this Thursday and will be shooting it at the end of the month.

Hip Hop class is going good.... ok, gotta go!

March 21, 2005 - At the final Prairie Theatre Exchange Playwriting class, Hope McIntyre had Cheryl Soluk, Lorraine James and myself read the students' original plays for them. This was done in an effort to help the playwrites visualize what their scenes would look like, and possibly how other people see the characters play out. I, on the other hand, personally got a lot out of the class and thoroughly enjoyed the practise of performing different characters with such diverse scripts and themes.

Then for some reason, Cheryl, Lorraine and myself ended up staying and talking "actor talk" until we realized it was after midnight - and we were still in Portage Place. LoL. I need to get out more often...

March 20, 2005 - I was interviewed for a school project on "local celebrities" by a sweetheart of a girl named Bailey. I seriously hope her marks are based on the paper she writes and not by my level of "stardom" LoL. I also found her to be very mature for someone in High School - I certainly don't remember being that mature myself. Actually, I don't seem to remember much these days I realized, as I found some answers escaping me when trying to answer her questions. I ended up watching "Napolean Dynamite" on her suggestion, and for some reason started missing the days when I had no responsibilites...

March 19, 2005 - Ok, this is not acting related or about me - but I want to congratulate my friend Darren Mehling who won the Heavyweight division in the Manitoba Novice Bodybuilding competition. He ended up losing 100 lbs since August when he competed in the strongman competition (where he won the deadlift event). Good luck to his wife Christina who will be competing in the National Fitness/Figure competition next month (since she won her height division last year). Darren and I spent many lunch hours together talking about weight training while in university. Maybe I need to get my act together and buckle down with the training so I can compete - at a much lighter division of course...

March 15, 2005 - Ok, I'm back from my trip to Vancouver and the island. It's so cold here. Remind me again why I'm still in Winnipeg? I checked out some acting classes, and received some very kind words from Shea Hampton. I really enjoyed myself in that class. I ran into a few people I knew like Paul Andrich, who is doing quite well for himself in Vancouver, and my good friend Melissa Best, who among a large number of things, has been working on the special effects for my FAVORITE television show of all time - yes, ALL TIME: Battlestar Galactica. I would kill to have a speaking role in this series - FYI just in case Ron Moore, Coreen Mayrs or Heike Brandstatter reads this...

What else can I mention on a public medium? I met with a few other important people. I discussed the possibility of me acting in a feature film to be shot in Vancouver in the fall... and ate a lot of sushi.

I'll leave you with me enjoying the sun, weather and general euphoric feeling I get while in bustling Vancouver.

March 5, 2005 - Yay, it's my birthday! Not only that, but the NSI Film Exchance festival has been going on for the past 4 days. I took in a few workshops and some indie films. Tyson Koschik's Changing Rooms and Guy Maddin's Sissy Boy Slap Party both played on Thursday's screening. My father was in town, so it was nice that he got to see 2 movies that I was in play at the Globe Cinema.

During Saturday's closing night party, Reil Munro's movie "In Mind" was found with great excitement to be projected on the building outside. This may have received better feedback than the "snow screen", and possibly set a new trend for the following years.

 A view inside "In Mind".

A special congratulations goes out to Chris Roberts who won the ZeD NSI Drama prize. Chris Roberts directed me in his movie "Director's Cut/A Good Day to Die". I just found out that this movie will be retitled due to naming conflicts with an existing movie. But regardless, congrats Chris!

Also a special congrats goes out to my friend Tri Cao who made is North American debut in Stryker.

I wish I could post more on the NSI happenings, but I have to be quick in updating this, as I'm getting ready to go to Vancouver for a week, and my flight is only hours away.  :)

February 21, 2005 - With about 20 or so other actors, we did a table read for Cam Patterson's feature-length movie "A Shake in the Tree'. Cam is the literary genius who was behind "Figment". I may be a bit biased, but I truly believe great things are going to come of this. His stories are complete and detailed, with characters every actor dreams of playing. Cam is currently shopping the script for funding. So if you're a producer, and you want to have a "hit" on your hands - get in contact with Cam. You heard it here first.

February 20, 2005 - Completed filming 2 entries into the Winnipeg Film Group's 48 Hour Film Contest: Kevin Nikkel's "Arrivals/Departures" and Mike Herdenstein's "People Can Change". Mike drove up from Chicago for the weekend just to shoot his film here! "People Can Change" ended up winning 3rd place in the competition. I literally had a tear in my eye when the final 2 lines of the movie were said. Powerful stuff.

Some familiar faces on the sets were: Toni Reimer, Karl Jones, Kelly Wolfman, Dan Kern and Shelly Kern!

Geoff Trubiak and Kelly Wolfman at the airport.

A special thanks to Kevin Nikkel, whom I hope to work with more in the future. Both filmmaker's expressed interest in re-editing their movies for submission into other film festivals. (Remember, it was 48 hours to both shoot AND edit the films - so sleep was a luxury these people couldn't afford). Eleven entries in all made it into the contest, and the screening at Cinematheque was standing room only for the inaugural event.

February 12, 2005 - We rocked Brandon for 3 straight days! Slixer Entertainment's Murder Mystery entertained everyone at Calhoon's Classic Grill in Brandon. Our crew of "Vivacious" Avital Ludwig, "Marvelous" Martin Trudel, "Tantilizing" Tracy N. McMahon, "Sexy" Stephen Gomori , "Dangerous" David Purvis and myself put on a Murder Mystery dinner performance that resulted in standing ovations, a real-life marriage proposal and an after show party that nobody will forget!

Brandon Murder Mystery Valentine's Day

January 22, 2005 - I'm honored to accept Kevin Nikkel's offer to perform in his entry into the WFG's 48 Hour Film Contest. The contest officially starts in the evening of February 18. The entire movie must be shot and edited within 48 hours of this time. We watch the completed movies Sunday, February 20th.

This has the makings of a very exciting competition that should be high on fun and low on sleep. :)  This will be my first time working with Kevin, and I am looking forward to it. And since this will be a contest, the details of this film are going to remain a secret for the time being....

January 16, 2005 -  I attended The Winnipeg Film Group's event "Dudes with Issues", which featured the premieres of 7 select local movies. I had the opportunity to visit with some of my favorite people to work with, as both Cam Patterson's "Figment" and Joe Novak's "Mob Flick" were hosted. "Figment" enjoyed warm acclamation, and a few well-placed audience shrieks that I took great pleasure in.

 Filmmaker Julie Skerget and myself.

And what seems to be becoming Winnipeg's version of "Entertainment Tonight/The Tonight Show",  the radio personality "SchmoozeQueen" Olga was at the event capturing interviews and the spirit of the party. I told her that I know I'm doing something right if I see her at the party. Mark my words, she's going to host her own show on television soon. But until then, you can listen to her interview's here.

January 13, 2005 - Reil Munro's film "In Mind" has been completed and entered into the NSI's National Exposure Amatuer Movie Contest. This is Reil's first film, but I think we're going to start seeing a lot more from this talented young director.

January 5, 2005 - Completed the filming for Reil Munro's film "In Mind", with a lot of hard work from all the crew. I got to work with the stunningly beautiful Jodie Stefanec, whom some of you may recognize from Shaw tv fame. Many of her shots were taken outside in -30'C weather - she's one tough cookie. Of course the crew had to endure this too, but they're used to not getting the credit they deserve. Good luck to Reil in completing the final editing before the January 14 deadline.

January 3, 2005 - I've accepted the male lead role in Reil Munro's film entry to the NSI's National Exposure Amatuer Movie Contest.

January 1, 2005 - Happy New Year! I spent mine at Danishka and Jonathan Esterhazy's downtown loft, where anyone who's anyone in the Winnipeg film industry can be found. Had a blast, did some karaoke and some human pyramid watching. Caught up with CTV's "Instant Star" star, Kris Turner who flew in from Toronto, and CBS's "Day of Destruction" Ryan Kennedy and the lovely Leigh Enns. Jeff Skinner outclassed us with his singing - apparently nobody told him karaoke is SUPPOSED to be bad. Olga, aka The SchmoozeQueen was there doing her interview for the radio. You can catch up with her here.

Finally, make sure you check out the new premiere's at Cinematheque January 15 - 19, 2005 @ 9pm. You'll find me in both Figment by Cam Patterson and Mob Flick by Joe Novak.

December 6, 2004 - Performed PTE's cabaret tonight. I've been taking singing lessons, and we sang "Sunrise, Sunset" and "This Joint is Jumping" as an ensemble. I also sang John Lennon's "Imagine" as my first solo. Singing in front of an audience is most definetely different than acting in front of an audience. LoL

November 26, 2004 - The screening of Cam Patterson's Figment, starring Toni Reimer and myself. Setup at Dark Life Studios, we held the premiere screening of Figment to a very receptive audience.

November 20, 2004 - I'm on holidays! I don't have to go back to work until late December. I'm looking forward to rest and relaxation, although I'll be studying for my MCAD as well as working on a screenplay.

November 14, 2004 - Completed filming Chris Robert's "Director's Cut"." I got to work with Jeremy Dangerfield again, which is always great. And I finally had some scenes with the beautiful and talented
Tracy N McMahon . Let me tell you - it was well worth the wait. Tracy is the consummate professional, and I thoroughly enjoyed working with her.

November 13, 2003 - I spent most of the evening "improvising" as a medieval knight at an event where many fairy tale characters came to life to entertain the guests. Other entertainers included such names as
Justin Guarini and Raven-Symone. (of American Idol and The Cosby Show/That's So Raven)

October 29, 2004 - Completed my final performance of Gender Play in FemFest, at the Colin Jackson Theatre in Prairie Theatre Exhange (3rd floor Portage Place). This was an exciting adventure, and a full house really brought the energy up.

October 26, 2004 - I've accepted the role of Richard, who is the detective in Chris Robert's film "Director's Cut". Shooting is scheduled to begin November 14, 2004.

October 16, 2004 - Completed the final shooting of "Cortez the Killer", by Timo Puolitaipale. I played the archvillian "Montezuma". Timo now has the challenge of completing the editing of his film before the birth of his first baby.

September 19, 2004 - Completed shooting Matt Bielecki's "Be Your Own Boss". It was an interesting experience, to say the least; and I can't wait to see the finished product. Matt is the first person I've worked with who actually had all the lighting set up DAYS before the actual shoot.
