Tobin is a Canadian full-time music composer and songwriter working in Vancouver and Victoria for over 15 years. Versatile and prolific, he writes music for choirs, film and television, ballet, opera, orchestra, large events, chamber groups, and theatre.


He is often commissioned for choral works from adult and children choirs. His choral music has premiered in Australia, Sweden, Venezuela, England, Spain, France, Mexico, United States, Japan, and Canada. He is a regular workshopper of new works, a choral jury member at the International Kathaumixw Choral festival, and has juried various other composition and funding competitions provincially, nationally, and internationally.


Tobin has scored various television shows and series for most major television and cable stations and networks in Canada, with rebroadcasts in many other countries on networks such as BBC, ABC, and PBS. Past work includes music for the feature film Saving Luna (aka “The Whale”, produced by Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson) and the docu/drama series, Darwin’s Brave New World and Captain Cook: Obsession and Discovery.


Music for large events includes the opening ceremonies of the XV Commonwealth Games, the BC Summer Games, and various contracts for the 2010 Olympics including the Olympic Bid, the Canada Pavilion in Beijing, the Torch Relay, the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Cultural Olympiads and the 2010 Olympic Aboriginal Pavilion.


Residencies include a three-year position with the Victoria Symphony, and ongoing affiliation with the International Choral Kathaumixw Festival and the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific.
