    This is not free to search online (though a free trial period is offered).  However, many Canadian libraries offer free in-library
    access to the Ancestry Library Edition database which contains this census.

    database contains only "land patents" with the name of the grantee, the description of the land and the date granted.

    These archives contain more than 2 million pages of the Winnipeg Free Press, starting in 1874.  Initial searches can be done online, but a subscription
    must be purchased to view the actual pages.
  3. Western Manitoba Genealogy Project  http://www.westmanitoba.com 
    An online genealogy site which hosts a database for "Pioneers of Manitoba" with contact information.  Contributions can be sent to the webmaster.

    This is the Rootsweb site for Manitoba, part of the Gen Web Canada network -- contains many useful Manitoba links.
  5. Manitoba Genealogy Society  http://www.mbgenealogy.com
    The MGS has been active since 1976, currently with 5 branches.  An online database of the MGS Library Catalogue is expected soon.  The website

    The Manitoba Archives holds extensive material from Government, Hudson's Bay Company, and private sources.  Some of their catalogue can be
    searched online.
  7. Manitoba Historical Society  http://www.mhs.mb.ca 
    Founded in 1879 by an act of Government, the Manitoba Historical Society is the oldest organization of its kind in Western Canada.  It has published
     the Manitoba History Journal since 1980 and many of the articles are online and can be accessed via the MHS Search function
