Left: "Inuksuk-Memories of the Yukon".By Arlene The fabrics were bought in the Yukon, the pattern by Shirley Connolley.Threadwork fireweeds added on top. (This quilt given to the Biles who used to live in the Yukon.)

Right: "Celebrating Friendships" by Val. 'Celebration' was the challenge for Hands Across the Water 2006. This quilt celebrates my sisters and friends, using photo transfers, crazy quilting and embellishment.

"My Motivation" by Alice

Carol F. taught this class at a beginners class. The "Stash Management" white fabric caught my eye and I knew this is what I wanted. I then decided on the purple and yellow fabrics. The quilt hangs in my sewing room and motivates me for quilting.

"Strata Too" by Nina.

This quilt is my own design. I enjoy working with strata units because you often get surprises. A 'strata' is a multi-strip unit which you can cut (sew) and recut, and re-arrange to find your favourite design.

"Stained Glass Window" by Shirley.

This pattern was from the book The Grasshopper, published by Hobby City. I made this quilt from a workshop taught by Gay in April 2006.

Top: "Nature's Challenge" by Gay.This is my 2006 Guild challenge inspired by Casson's painting 'White Pines'. The trees were machine embroidered and then attached to the background. Bottom: "TQG Challenge 2006 by Lois. The challenge fabric was 'polkadot' (picked by Becky). This is my interpretation of the challenge for an 'art' quilt.I used hand-dyed and batik fabrics with various embellishments.

"Vitality" by Alice.

My in-laws were just finishing their new house and I wanted to make something for them. Chuck and Sue represent 'vitality' to me. The colours I chose are as vibrant as they are.

"Celebrate You" by Doris.

This is my interpretation of the Hands Across the Waters challenge. I wanted to 'celebrate' everyone!

"Draconia" by Suzanne#1

This is a round-robin quilt made with my birthday group. I provided the centre square and each of the 7 participants added something to it. The centre block was handpainted by Iona McCauley.

"Sashiko" by Christine.

This 'all-over' design was hand traced from popular patterns of rectangles, circles and diamonds. it was hand stitched with a simple running stitch. It is machine quilted. Sashiko is a fascinating, therapeutic, relaxing and possibly addicting

"Eight Times Round" by Lois.

This round robin quilt began with my centre star theme. The 7 friends who completed the quilt are Barb Mc, Barb K.,Pat A. Yvonne, Suzanne Hart..., Gail M., and Karen P.

Top left: "Christmas Logs-My Way-My Rules" by Nina. This was my own design, playing with a brown bag full of scraps. Who says a block has to be square? Bottom left: "Christmas Trio #2" by Nina. This is the 2nd of 3 quilts that I designed to test different types of fusibles. I used simple shapes and fabric scraps. Top right: "Christmas Trio #3" by Nina. I now have a trio of appliqued Christmas quilts. Bottom right: "Christmas Trio #1" by Nina.

Left: "Penguin Charm" by Carol G. This is a 'Mount Redoubt' pattern. It is machine stitched, appliqued and quilted. I also embellished this wallhanging with crystals. Top right:(Part of different quilt) Bottom right: "Poinsettia" by Cathy G. This pattern is from the 'Designer's Workshop'. This paper pieced quilt was a kit. I love puzzles and this proved to be the "ultimate puzzle!"

"Snowmen" by Angel.

This table runner was made from a purchased pattern; "Details by Dianne" (Dianne Kuke)

"En Route!" by Linda. This wall hanging is the first I've made for our home. It's first purpose was to provide me with applique practice as well as to fill part of a long blank wall in the living room. Because it is 'seasonal', it has to be replaced-a simple reason for quilting another one! Pattern by Mt. Redoubt.

Top: "Christmas 2006" by Suzanne#2. This quilt was my own design. I drew some of the patterns and used a child's colouring book for further inspiration. Bottom: "Snowmen Quartet" by Barb Mc. This is a 'class sampler' made from a pattern taken fro Better Homes and Garden quilt magazine. It was a fun project.

"Earth Series: Sand" by Nina.

This is my own design inspired by Australian quilter Judy Hooworth. Her design book "Razzle Dazzle Quilts" is one of my favourites.

"Garden For Dreamers" by Doris. This quilt was my own design. I enlarged a sihouette of an elf in a garden and appliqued it to a water colour background. It's a fun and whimsical quilt and reminds me of being a child, daydreaming under a tree while the sun is going down.

Top: "8 Mermaids Quilting" by Yvonne. This quilt was inspired by a class I took by Mary Lou Wedman in Sisters, Oregon 2000. It celebrates my friendship with 7 other coastal quilters (the 'mermaids'). What kind of quilt would mermaids make? My idea was something airy with seaweed, shells and sea animals. I made their quilt from melted plastic, Tyvek, paint, and thread. Bottom: "Fan-Tastic Felines" by Norma. This is my 6" wall hanging showing cats. I just can't stop making them! The cats are hand appliqued and a touch of trim to perk it up. Pattern is from the Cats Meow book.

Top: "Pretty in Pink" by Pat A. Pattern from "Thinking Outside the Block" by S.Cummings and K. Flamme. I used dome hand dyed fabrics from Yvonne's class. Bottom: "Cat Heaven" by Norma. This pattern is my own design and the 5" cat quilt I've made. I couldn't resist this cat fabric!

Top: "City Colours City Lights" by Leslie. I designed, pieced, and beaded this piece for my daughter and her husband for their new home. Bottom: "Blimey" by Pat A. Pattern from book "Thinking Outside the Block" by S. Cummings and K. Flamme. Iused some hand dyed fabrics from Yvonne's class.

Top:"Orcas" by Gay. The whales pattern was designed by Edna Trunt. The background was my idea and was executed in the stained glass method.Bottom: "Funky Flowers" by Norma. This litte wall hanging makes me smile. I enjoyed making it and am pleased with the result. Pattern from Quilter's Corner.

"Down on the Farm and Friends" by Jennie.

This is an original design. I made it for my grandson Nathan, his first quilt. The appliques and designs were inspired by a variety of sources.

Top: "Mexican Stars" by Sherrill. I made this quilt at a workshop taught by Brenda Brayfield. It is an A. Omelas pattern. Bottom: "Storks Arrival Special Delivery" by Jennie. This is a MT. Redoubt pattern. I made it for my grandson Nathan's arrival.

"Storm at Sea" by Jennie.

This quilt was made at a workshop on 'top foundation piecing' taught by Bren Brayfield.

"Strips and Curves" by Linda. This quilt was made at a class taught by Carol F. I judged the quilt book by its cover, the pattern and colours intrigued me. I was impressed with the simplicity of it as it looked more challenging than it was. I will do this pattern again using different type of fabric... perhaps batiks.

"Mexican Stars" by Janet.

This Mexican Star quilt was made at a Brenda Brayfield workshop sponsored by our Guild.

"Quadrille Twister" by Nancy.

My interpretation of the 05/06 guild challenge 'art'. The artwork is from each of my 4 sons and the embroidery is from my mother. I put it all together and it became Family Art! Bottom left: "Heart, Bird, Leaf, Flower" by Christine. This reverse applique technique was taught by Yvonne. I chose retro cotton prints, a batik, and a gold cotton print. It was my first time to use this technique and the satin stitch on my machine. Choosing the right colour thread for accent is very important. I was pleased with the result.

Top: "Ocean Motion" by Sharon. This is a miniature quilt, paper pieced and machine quilted. I used a 'Snails Trail' pattern by C. Edgerton. Bottom: "Shape Shifter" by Eleanor. This wall hanging is a result of a 'Shape Shifter' workshop taught by Iona McCauley. My first attempt at nontraditional piecing.

I wanted to make a quilt for my friend Virginia. After buying lots of blue and green fabrics, this is the end result. Pattern from a Better Homes and Gardens magzine.

"Heavenly Blue" by Barb B.

The magazine article showed the quilt as a table cloth but I made it into a bed quilt. Machine sewn and hand quilted.

"Hawaiian Wedding Ring" by Suzanne#1.

This quilt was made for my niece's wedding. I was unsure of her colour choice but it turned out to be very dramatic. This is the 'Pineapple Block'

"Millenium Quilt" by Gay.

This quilt was started in Fall of 99 as a Block of the Month guild Millenium project. I finished it in 06. Perhaps a better name would be "Procrastination?"The background fabric was discharged. Quilted by Crazy Quilt Cottage.

"Ruth's Star in Reach" by Susan S.

Machine stitched and quilted by me. I made this quilt for my son who loves bright colours.Pattern from the Quilter Magazine March 06 edition.

Top: "Spring Fusion" by Barb Mc. The 05/06 guild challenge fabric is the background. I chose to accent the circles in the fabric and then embellished it with beads and wool. Bottom right: "Forest Shadows" by Nina. This quilt is my own design and is part of my 'Earth' series. I enjoy making wonky, unmatched blocks in the log cabin style. Bottom left: "Celebrating Our Community" by Nina. I chose to celebrate the concept of community. ('Celebration' being the challenge theme of Hands Across the Water 06.

"My Newbie Folly" by Alice.

As a new quilter, I thought the best way to build a stash was to buy 4" squares through Ebay. I didn't use the squares immediately, but as I was digging through the squares another project hit me.... squares plus squares = a quilt!

"Starry Night" by Leslie.

I did this quilt in a workshop (Mexican Stars) by Brenda Brayfield. I generally prefer creating my own patterns but this one appealed to me. Instead of sewing all the flaps down I've beaded them down for a more 'starry' effect.

Top: "Male Bonding" by Wanda. I found this pattern by K. Gallagher & L. Schwartz Smith in Creston. My quest was to hit every quilt shop on my way to Calgary and I don't think I missed too many! Bottom: "Zulu Bravo" by Suzanne#1. I designed this quilt for my Schnoodle puppy. (giant Schnauzer & standard poodle)

Top: "Spring" by Nina. This was part of the 'art' challenge for June 2006. The flowers were appliqued and I used pencil crayons to colour them, I embellished with beads.

Top: "Dragon Flies and Leaves" by Deb. This piece was made as acommission. I had some ideas of what the customer wanted and worked within those guidelines for colour choices. My friend Gay encouraged m to try this technique after she had seen a demo on TV. Bottom: "Maui Kelp" by Nancy. Pattern is "Abstract Trio #3" by Lovenest Design. The pattern reminded me of the ocean and after a trip to Maui with Linda, and a fabric shopping trip, I was ready to make 'Maui Kelp'.

"Fish and Fowl" by Yvonne.

This quilt was made as a friendship round robin. The owner starts it off with the centre block. I had my centre block printed by Smoking Lily of Victoria. We then passed the quilt on, with each member adding a round.

Top left: "Autumn Celebration" by Lois. HAW 2006 challenge. I used batik & upholstery fabrics and embellished with organza poly netting, Tyvek, beads, yarn and natural leaves. The orange and green mountain images are silk fusion. Top right: "Out of My Comfort Zone" by Barb Mc. I enjoyed the challenge to make this piece at a silk fusion workshop taught by M. Wanderwielt at Quilt Canada. Also some beading. Bottom: "Seafoam" by Sharon. I made this Storm at Sea quilt while learning 'top foundation piecing' (Brenda Brayfield). It is stipple quilted.

Top: "Mountain Meadows" by Gay.

This stained glass pattern was designed by Lise Merchant. I embellished with beads.

Bottom: "Hidden Wells" by Shirley.

This quilt was made at a Hidden Wells workshop taught by our friend and fellow quilter Marg Pauls. What a great way to use up our strips of fabric.

This quilt began with the brown challenge fabric and the discovery of the embellishment yarn at a local craft fair. When I saw the pattern (Track and Trail by Marge Edie) I knew it would work. Embellishment yarn by Silver Selkie Studio of Powell River.

Top right: "Evening Watch" by Leslie.(Guild Challenge 06/07) Bottom right: "Forest Landscape" by Gay. Top: "Black Capped Chickadee" by Arlene. (Guild Challenge 06/07)

Bottom: "Out of the Box" by Suzanne#2.

This Guild challenge was my challenge to step 'out of the box' for design. (Guild Challenge 06/07)

"Guild Challenge 06/07" by Eleanor

Top left: "Misha" by Val. This is my interpretaion of the fabric for this years challenge.
