July 31 – Meeting Minutes

1.)          Scope of Fall League:

·  No frills for fall:  no shirts, grab bags, team prizes  (too late to order shirts and workload tricky).

·  No playoffs but champion could be awarded on basis of round robin results.

·  Consumable prize for champion, such as appetizer gift certificates, versus a trophy.

·  Assign each team a color.  Teams have option of using this color or use or white or black shirts for games.

·  Keep to engineered team format versus submitted teams (to ensure parity and maximize skill development of all players).

·  Target will be 4 teams of 15 people each for 48 total people. 

·  League will run from Tuesday September 4 to Tuesday September 25 (6 weeks) with an additional two weeks of mixed team format if weather permits (fields can only be booked by month).

·  Scrimmage and development will be held on the respective Thursday nights. 

·  If interest exceeds 48 people, scheduling of games on Thursday night may have to be done.

·  Scores and standings will not be recorded or posted (done in spring so mix it up for folks wanting a more casual approach).

·  Scores can be kept during games at choice of team captains.

 

2.)          League Fees:

·  League Fees will consider field rental ($7.50/hr * 4 hours/week * 8 weeks =$240)

·  League Fees will consider BCDSS membership for insurance with an estimate of 30 new players  ($75/team*2= $150).   

·  League Fees will consider a desire a floating fund for tournaments (so captains don’t have to cover costs until players reimburse)

·  League Fees will consider need to cover upcoming expenditure $250 fee for society membership

·  League Fees will consider the need to have a price that will discourage missing games but still be of value on a per game rate.

·  Extras like Frisbees, disk golf disks, were discussed but decided not to be included due to added complexity involved (what to get, how many to order, ect)

·  League Fee decided upon was $25/player

 

3.)          Spirit:

·  No sprit rankings to be recorded or league spirit prizes awarded

·  Teams will be encouraged to reward other team with cheers, spirit awards, or spirit games

·  2 league nights will be spirit team nights (S&M, bad hair, bad prom night ect.)

 

4.)          Team Formation and Schedule:

·  Committee will meet on Thursday, August 23 to draft the teams so announcement should request interest by August 21.

·  Teams will be drafted by separating players into novice, intermediate, experienced levels for each gender and balance accordingly so teams equal (parity).

·  Special requests of players needing to be on a team with another person (usually for scheduling purposes) will be addressed on an as requested basis.

·  Eric will draft schedule for posting to membership on August 28.

 

5.)          Poster:

·  Nini to ask Laura if she would like to create a poster for fall league and delegate distribution.

·  Alecia should be asked to place posters at UNBC (an idea of a PGU booth at UNBC also discussed to boost UNBC involvement).

 

6.)          Field Space:

·  Maizie has requested 2  PGSS fields with DP Todd back-up for fall.  It will take 2 weeks to know results.

·  If successful, Eric will cancel Ron Brent fall request.

·  We may not need reserved fields on Thursday if league less than 48 players and we should try to reduce with city if possible.

·  Need to clarify exactly what  Maizie requested so we know what we will be billed.

·  Eric mentioned that reducing field space once booked may not be easy and that booking fields increases our credibility with city.
