![]() This book is a direct result of my experience as a flute teacher; it is a compilation of the material that I found myself writing out for student after student. The exercises in it are ones that I have developed or modified to best fit the way that I teach the instrument. They reflect the influence of many people - my own music teachers as well as those masters, particularly Marcel Moyse and Trevor Wye, whose flute methods have for many years been the staple of countless young flautists. The book is divided into three sections; Tone, Scales and Technique. Each section contains a one-page introduction with an explanation of the skills addressed in that section as well as tips on how to most effectively practise the material. The tone exercises range from very simple to short transposing melodies. The scale exercises, divided into basic and advanced, contain the major and all three forms of the minor scale, arpeggios, diminished and dominant seventh arpeggios, scales in thirds, fourths, sixths and sevenths, chromatic scales and more. In the technique section I have included finger exercises, double and triple tonguing exercises, tips on memorizing and an excellent section on problem-solving in pieces outlining various techniques for practising difficult areas of pieces. I have also included an Appendix, containing colourful practise charts and manuscript paper for student or teacher use. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of this book, please contact me.
