On30

 Bachmann 0-4-0 Porter

My first piece of On30 equipment was a Bachmann 0-4-0 Porter. It ran well, looked pretty good and negotiated very tight curves. However I really liked Forney engines so I wondered if the Porter could be converted. That led to a major rebuild using a Baldwin Forney as a guide:

Here is the result:

Model Power DDT Plymouth (kitbash)

The DDT required very little to convert it to an On30 locomotive: a wider deck, air tanks, exhaust stack and headlights.

On18

Model Power Porter Hustler (kitbash)

Starting with an MP Porter Hustler, I chopped the original cab and replaced it with a Boulder Valley Models side door cab and then substituted a Lifelike N gauge SW9 chassis and motor. Other bits and pieces were made from styrene and brass. Thanks to Alan Carroll for inspiration and for some terrific plans on the Yahoo On18 Group. I think it makes a great little critter!

Avalon Open Cab Diesel

I ordered the Avalon Open Cab Diesel from Pepper 7 in the UK. It rides on a Graham Farish 0-6-0 chassis. I added a bit of weight to improve tracking and electrical pickup. Hmmm... looks like the same can of red paint was used for all the On18 engines.

Greenwood & Batley Battery Loco

The G & B battery loco is a Black Dog Mining locomotive from Pepper 7. It's powered by a Graham Farish DMU/HST Power Bogie. Both this power unit and the one used for the Open Cab Diesel required a lot of breaking in but afterwards they were very quiet and smooth. Nice kits!
