Local Weather

Welcome to the weather page, your jumping off point for real time weather information from the Saanich Peninsula, right from my back yard.

Why would you want to look at the data from my station when you can get the same type of data from the weather station at Victoria International Airport? (Just 4 km north of here.) Because while it’s often the similar, it can be quite different. And my station is just a few meters away from the Mt. Newton X Road intersection on the Patricia Bay Highway, BC Hwy 17. And the weather in downtown Victoria is often remarkably different than here. (I will add a map feature here later on.)

I will eventually add various widgets like radar and satellite presentations to further inform and entertain you.

  • Saanichton Weather Station as reported to Weather Underground
This is one of several stations which contribute observations and which helps the meteorological models develop an accurate forecast. Readings are metric, although if you work through the preferences you can have them provided in other forms. The weather station identifier at this site is IDNS70.
  • Saanichton Weather Station as reported to PWS
This is a site operated primarily by US-based amateur radio operators. Again, the station contributes observations which are used to assist in forecasting. If you don’t like metric, this site is for you. The PWS converts and defaults everything to American standards (Fahrenheit, MPH, inches of mercury, etc.). You can change to metric if you wish by clicking the tiny little link in the right hand corner over the Google map on the site. The weather station identifier at this site is SAANWX1.
