Main Therapeutic Approaches

Psychodynamics/Interpersonal

This approach focuses on identifying patterns that have emerged from previous relationships with family and/or friends and on how to modify maladaptive patterns that prevent people to establish and maintaining satisfying relationships.

Somatic Experiencing

This is a gentle yet transformative therapeutic approach that integrates cognitive processing and neurophysiology, particularly useful for traumatic experiences and anxiety disorders. This approach heals trauma without having to relieve the fear associated with it. By tracking sensations taking place in the body people become more aware of how they can regulate their anxiety. The work involves focusing on what is taking place in the moment in terms of physical sensations, information from senses, thoughts, images, kinesthetic experiences, from which emerges meaning and a new way to see a previous experience.

Cognitive-behavioural

This approach focuses on understanding the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviours; understanding impact of beliefs on the way one sees the world and how it impacts one's ability to change.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Systemic/Couple

This approach focuses on understanding how individuals influence each other (often unconsciously) when they engage in a relationship with a partner or their family. Often involves looking at boundaries, power and control issues, alliances between members, reinforcement through feedback loops.)
