Newcastle Island is a place of incredible beauty and peace
found just a ferry trip away from Nanaimo (the town where I live). There
is an intimate link between the sky, land and ocean that is fundamental to
capturing the essence of a scene. The trees, mountains and buildings must
respond to the forces so evident in Canadian west coast landscapes. In the
traditional of the Canadian artist, Emily Carr, movement and connectivity
play a major role in distinguishing my art from the limited reality
captured in a photograph.
