Kiwanis Medical Resource Centre
A survey was done of the needs of the
Parksville and Qualicum Beach communities. It was
discovered that the single biggest concern was the lack of a
medical facility to treat emergencies and the decrease of the
number of doctors in the area.
Upon consultation with some of the
local practioners and investigating current models through the
internet it was discovered that a medical centre has been in
operation in Sault Ste. Marie which could be modified to
answer our needs. The recent government funded report
identified this centre as being an example for other
communities to follow.
The Parksville-Qualicum Beach
Kiwanis Club has put together a task force to investigate
the possibilities of locating such a centre in our area.
Discussions are forthcoming with our local politicians,
doctors and in January, 2003, two Kiwanians will be meeting at
the Sault Ste. Marie complex to ascertain what steps are
needed to begin the process of establishing a medical centre.
They will then report back to the club their findings.
