Can I learn to paint on porcelain?

    Yes, if you are willing to commit to learning  and practicing the various techniques. The art of porcelain painting is certainly a beautiful one  and any effort put forth to learn it will be well rewarded. All the basic rules of fine art apply. It is a matter of learning the basics, applying yourself, practicing and having the desire to master new challenges. Generally   you will start by following existing designs, then progress to experimenting with different styles and techniques.

 Will a teacher allow me to try different techniques?

    Most teachers usually love to encourage their students to experiment with many different styles and techniques, although it’s a good idea to learn the basics before experimenting totally on your own.

How much will my basic start up materials cost? 

    Not all teachers have the same approach. Once you have decided the type of work you want to do, the teacher will assist you in selecting what you need and arrive at a cost. Paint and good quality brushes are a must and will also last a very long time.

Do I need to own a kiln?

     No, although many painters do buy their own kiln. Most students initially leave the firing for their teachers.

How will I find the supplies needed for  painting?

    These are readily available from various suppliers in Canada and internationally. Your teacher should have a full list and you can learn a lot from talking to other porcelain painters and by checking out the PPIO website (Porcelain Painters International Online).   

 How will I find a teacher in my area?

    Through the Internet, or local art associations, through the local chapter of the Porcelain   Artist of Canada Inc. (PAC Inc.) and/or consider joining the Porcelain Artists of Canada Inc. to receive their quarterly newsletter.

 Puis-je apprendre à peindre sur porcelaine?

Oui, si vous êtes d’accord pour vous engager dans l’apprentissage et la pratique des diverses techniques. Toutes les règles de base des beaux arts s’y appliquent. L’art de la peinture sur

porcelaine est certainement magnifique et tout effort déployé pour l’apprendre sera très gratifiant.

Est-ce que le professeur me permettra d’essayer différentes techniques?

Habituellement, vous débuterez en suivant des modèles existants, pour ensuite progresser en expérimentant divers styles et techniques.

Combien coûte le matériel de base pour débuter?

Les professeurs n’ont pas tous la même approche. Une fois que vous avez décidé du type de travail que vous voulez faire, les matériels peuvent être choisis et le coût établi en consultation avec votre professeur. Les poudres vous serviront plusieurs années. Des pinceaux de bonne qualité sont requis et dureront aussi très longtemps.  

Ai-je besoin de posséder un four?

Non, au début, la plupart des élèves font cuire leurs pièces par leur professeur, et certains peintres achètent éventuellement leur four.  

Où trouverai-je les fournitures nécessaires pour peindre?

Elles sont aisément disponibles de divers fournisseurs au Canada et partout dans le monde. Votre professeur devrait avoir une liste complète et vous pouvez en apprendre beaucoup en parlant à d’autres peintres sur porcelaine et en consultant le site web de PPIO (Porcelain Painters International Organization ).
