June 2009 Syilx Protests new
laws for border-crossing between Canada and the USA that took
affect this month. These new requirements for passing through
the border denies the free passage guaranteed to First Nations
through the 1794 Jay Treaty in which Britain and the USA
recognized "the rights of Indians to freely pass between the US
and Canada". As with all historic attempts by the
state-colonists, our people gathered to express our deep concern
over their failure to honour their own treaties. Some pictures
of the day's even where provided by a member of the Syilx
Nation, click

"Clearing Path to Justice"
background by Grand Chief Ed John of the BC First Nations Summit
was recently released, excerpt
from the Summit website:"Speaking at Clearing the Path to
Justice, held on January 28, 2009, Grand Chief Edward John,
explained to the audience that First Nations in BC have long
been concerned that even as they appear to make significant
strides through the judicial system and in the international
arena, they are still a long way from achieving the ability to
protect and exercise their inherent rights in a meaningful way
especially since Canada and the Province of British Columbia
(“BC”) continue to deny the constitutionally-protected title and
rights of First Nations in litigation and in modern treaty
negotiations." click

Introduction
This site is all about me, my dreams and aspirations, my life
experiences and thoughts about what I have experienced, my culture
and spirituality as a proud Syilx warrior of the interior tribes of
what is now called British Columbia, Canada. I am a proud Canadian
in this post-colonial era with deeply rooted values and teachings of
my people.
I would like to give special honorary mention to my mother, Laura
Manuel for all she represents in my life. To my step-dad, Tom Molett,
you have been there all my life and I can never express how thankful
I am for your being in my life. Also to my aunt Amy Tom for her
spirit lives on in me and her unwavering determination to not give
in to pressures when it comes to our culture and language. And
finally to my late father, William Alexis Laferté, who in his final
years shared with me many of his life experiences.
So now here we are, me sharing my life with you and you taking
the time to view my site. Bless you and I thank you for your caring
enough to take the time to learn more about who I am and all the
things that are so very important to me.

[ that is good enough ]
To My Mom:
may you walk in beauty
beauty before you
beauty behind you
beauty to the left of you
beauty to the right of you
beauty above you
beauty below you
all around you beauty
beauty protect you
beauty guide you
may you walk in beauty.
I humbly pray for you,
thank you for giving me life.
thank you for raising me,
as best as you could with
what you had.
thank you for all your support,
and your unconditional love.
You said the milky way was
the path you see in your
near future, a sacred journey to the other side.
Though cancer had taken hold,
you always thought of everyone else before yourself. You were simply
that kind of a good human being and an example that I will do my
very best to live by in my years.

This is my mom, Laura Manuel, may she
rest in peace.
