GLENDINNING

Although the Glendinning name originated in Scotland, my particular branch have been in southwestern England since approximately 1700. I would  never have discovered my Glendinning ancestors without the scrupulous research efforts of Angela  Aldam and her informative website.

My grandfather Frederick was the son of William Charles

Glendinning and Martha Bray. He came to Canada from Bristol, England in 1912, meeting his future wife Eliza Ellis on the journey

(or so the story goes). They settled first in Medicine Hat, Alberta and later  moved to Victoria, British Columbia, where most of the family still reside. His brother Edward (Ted) also came to North America and a large family of descendents are located in Michigan, including "cousin" Judy Hecker who has provided a great deal of information for this project.

Frederick's grandparents were Samuel Glendinning and Mary Nation. For more information on

the Nation family please see the following sites maintained by my  cyber-cousins:

Mike Matthews (UK)                         Brian Cleaver  (NZ)

His maternal grandparents, William Bray and Sarah Crew's families are still being researched and will hopefully be added in the near future. In the meantime, many of William's family are profiled on Gordon & Barbara Faulkner's excellent website on the Brays  from Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, later Bedminster, Bristol,

The name is spelled in various ways on the accompanying report but all those listed belong to the

same extended family.
