Biography of Joan Noble Johnston

Painting is a large part of Noble's life, a necessary and enjoyable part. She is a serious self-taught artist with her own distinctive style.  Born in the small prairie town of Oxbow, Saskatchewan, the Artist has drawn and painted since early childhood. Her first prize-winning poster was published in the Lethbridge newspaper in 1949 at the tender age of 11.   As adult in Kamloops BC she painted with the North Shore Palette Group, honing her skills and exhibiting her work twice a year, while at the same time raising a family of four small children.

After moving to Victoria in 1985, the ocean views and totems inspired her creativity and brought her talents into full bloom. Noble  has exhibited and demonstrated with the Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society.  She is a member of The Victoria Arts Council and The Community Arts Council of the Saanich Peninsula, where she has exhibited in shows and on Studio Tours. She is also a member of the Victoria Illustrators Society and the Oak Bay Crafters as well as a founding member of the Arts and Cultural Highway Accord.

An award winning artist, her work has been chosen for the Arts Council's Christmas card mailing list in 1998, and was chosen as the 'People's Choice' for a mural in Sidney's 1998  " Gallery By The Sea."   Most recently, her painting "The Gatherers" won "Juror's Choice" at the May Art Show in Sidney BC.  Donations of her work have been made to the Greater Victoria Art Gallery, The Art in Bloom Show, Honduras Support Group, as well as The Society Of Friends Of St. Ann's Academy for which she is a member.

Her cards are sold in The Village Craft, 2170 Oak Bay Ave, Victoria BC and her Paintings can be viewed online at
