Natural Impressions

Born and raised in southwestern Ontario, I moved to Calgary in 1975 to live near the Rocky Mountains.  This opened up a world of exploration for me, and nourished my love of the outdoors.  Hiking lead me into amazing landscapes of wildflower meadows, forests, and rocky peaks.

  I discovered watercolour painting in 1984, and studied with a local artist.  I returned to Ontario for 6 years, but moved back to Calgary in 1990 to reconnect with the western natural world.  I soon became actively involved in environmental advocacy when a proposed development in a local natural area touched me deeply.

  Since inspiration for my work is found in the natural environment, I discovered that my painting flourishes when I am  immersed in nature.  For the past 6 years, I have  spent time at a simple cabin in the Blaeberry Valley, BC, to focus on my  work.   Many of my  paintings reflect views and discoveries from this area.

  My goal is to invoke e a sense of "nature worth preserving"   through my  paintings.  I hope to kindle awareness and a sense of stewardship of our natural areas to those who are touched by my work.

  This marking found on all my paintings.  It is a sign of appreciation to the Great Spirit, who I believe exists in all natural things.
