Motor Trend (September 1973)
magazine noted that the 1974 Pontiac GTO "may be a better automobile than the original '64".
Using the Ventura body style as
the platform, Pontiac used its 350 cubic inch engine. With a four-barrel carburetor
and dual exhaust -- complete with twin chromed exhaust outlets -- this car produced 200
HP.
Adding its shaker hood, special suspension, Rally II
wheels, specific black grille and unique GTO graphics, there was no mistaking the 10th --
and final -- version of the original GTO. Little did anyone know that this would
also be the last GTO model.
This "clone" GTO is not presumptious enough to be a "numbers" car.
Rather, it started its life in Willow Run,
Michigan on October 2, 1973 with the Sprint styling option and was shipped the following
day to Major's Garage Ltd. in Mariapolis, Manitoba (Canada).
One of only 346 Sprint optioned Venturas produced for 1974,
this car had been in the original owner's family since new. Murray Brown proudly acquired the car in July of 2002,
and the modifications have resulted in a GTO "clone".
