Elizabeth AGLEY AKA Hagley^3,6,7 was born about 1829 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. She died of 'senile decay' on 7 December 1910 in Bulls, New Zealand. Note on daughter Elizabeth marriage certificate she names her father as John Agley. This could be simply a mistake as Thomas died when she was quite young and her mother remarried to a John Maden in 1838. At that time Elizabeth was only 9 and likely much younger when Thomas died. She may not have had much recollection of him and considered John her father. As she could not write at time of marriage the Parish Church scribe may have assumed father John as Agley. For some reason the (H) was dropped. Both she and her brother James used Agley.

In the English 1841 census she resided on Providence Street, Bradford with her elder brother James (age 15) with a family named Maden. Mother Henrietta a widow, had married John Maden in 1838.
In the 1851 census she was married to George Riley and had a daughter Hannah age 2 (visiting next door at time of census) and a son John age 1.
In the 1861 census she is listed as a widow (worsted weaver) and in addition to Hannah (scholar) and John (a worsted spinner) had two sons James Agley (7)and Joseph (4) and two more daughters - Henrietta (9) and Georgiana (12mths.)
In the 1871 census Elizabeth is 42, Hannah age 22 is a worsted weaver, John - 21 a cabinet maker, Henrietta - 19 worsted weaver, James - 17 a butcher, Joseph - 14 worsted spinner, living at 22 Oxley Street, Bradford. Also a lodger Joseph Waddington 19 - cabinet maker.
Georgiana died in 1866.

Elizabeth and daughter Hannah became colonial sponsored immigrants to NZ. Elizabeth (age 47) was stated as a Widow and Hannah (age stated as 25)as General Servant. They left Plymouth England on September 3, 1879 on the "Arethusa" and arrived Wellington on December 7, 1879.
