The Lure
Eric may be the most incompetent, least successful fly fisherman in the history of the sport. His talent for fly fishing and fly tying has never quite equaled his love for it. Year after year he enters the big derbies, and year after year he is the butt of everyone's jokes and cruelties.
But this year...things are going to be different.

Some moments from production
of
"The Lure"
...There's nothing short about making a short film
A film about fishing
has to start somewhere, so why not in the dead of winter? Our first
official day of shooting was used to gather transition and stock footage
to be used later in post-production. It didn't take us long to appreciate
how much we were going to depend on the sun for the rest of this project.
At the end of Day
1,we pop some bubbly to celebrate the commencement of filming. DOP
Steve Hanon, directors Kelly Eshpeter and Neil Gordon and co-producer Eric
Mosley are photographed by the irreplaceable (but camera shy) production
manager Cindy Mosley.
Eric's Discovery
From the opening
scene (was also the last scene actually filmed). Eric Mosley, cam
assist Carrie and DOP of Iron Steve Hanon prepare for yet another One-Take-Charlie.
Eric realizes
that he may have stumbled onto something almost supernatural. Eric's "goldfish"
are actully Gold Mollies, known for there cooperative nature on film sets.
The Mollies were lent to the production by Big Al's Aquarium Services.
An unidentified
director chats it up with Eric
Steve Hanon,
along with a wannabe writer/director, and script supervisor Sandy
Arsenault on location at the Raven Brood Trout Station near Caroline, Alberta.
Raven served as the interior for the Fish Hatchery scene as well as exteriors
for some close-up shots of the Derby sequence.
Eric field-tests his discovery with astonishing results.
Eric is gently escorted from the hatchery. Our stills photographer
Rick Hand (right) cameos as one of the guards alongside Bob Davidson.
The uniforms were made from scratch (even the shoulder flashes) and include
such touches as trout-shaped cap badges. Ours was the first crew ever allowed
to film in the Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery, thanks to the negotiating
talents of Super PM Cindy Mosley.
Eric gets a taste of "star treatment".
Your pillow fluffer will be
right with you, sir.
Art director
Howard Kilgour (left) takes a breather after some pretty intense set decoration.
The "insurance office" location was provided to us by Rogers AT&T Wireless.
They also donated generous amounts of coffee for cast and crew, even if
they're not aware of it.
Eric,
a man who obviously loves his job, gets a pep talk from his boss(Ron Waller). His
executive assistant (Shaun Kidd) has played this scenario out for about
the 5th time today, and it's not even lunch.
