When I was 3 years old I was in a serious boating accident that damaged my right leg. (I guess falling out of a boat and getting caught in the propeller will do that sort of thing to you.) For the next 13 years of my life I was in and out of BC’s Children’s Hospital. From the whole ordeal I have learnt many lessons, everything from how to hide a 10 pound stainless steel cage attached to my leg underneath my jobie robe, to occupying myself on long road trips, to how to accept whatever comes my way.

I love to travel and I hope to accompany Mrs. Windbiel & Dad Smiley on as many of their visits as I can. I live in Kamloops, BC, which is a semi-arid desert with baby cactuses in the summer and at least 3 feet of snow in the winter, so I can adapt to almost any climate. Although I am somewhat of an experienced traveler, I haven’t quite learnt to pack light. I’m told by the end of this year I will.

The extrovert in me likes to make new friends, as well as spend time with old ones. Someone once told me that because I’m an only child I’m more likely to have friends of any age, but I don’t believe that. I like to think that age holds no influence on my friendships because everyone is equal.

I am a Past Honored Queen of Bethel #47 in Kamloops, and I have also held the positions on the British Columbia Job’s Daughters (BCJD) Interior Daughter’s Activity Committee. I’ve attended three Supreme Sessions in total (Chicago, Casper & Fresno) and loved every minute of it. I even had the great privileges of being a Supreme Representative and being on BC’s Supreme Messenger Team! Had I not attended Session in 2003 I would not have gotten to know the three girls who would inspire me to run in the Miss BCJD Pageant, two of who would later become my Miss BC peers and one who was 1st Runner Up twice. I was crowned Miss BCJD 2005-06 in March at our Grand Session, but the following month my Jobie Grandmother and Chairman of the Miss BCJD Pageant Committee, Mrs. Beverly Sewell passed away.

My mom is my own personal superhero and I honestly can’t imagine my life without her. My dad died when I was young and so she raised me on her own. Last year I enrolled at the same University she had attended, Thompson Rivers University. Before that I graduated with honors from NorKam Secondary School in 2004.

Although I love school, I have currently chosen to put my education on hold while I travel the Job’s Daughters World as Miss IJD. I would hate to quit school entirely so I’ll be doing courses by correspondence until the year is over. After that I plan to return to University to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. I’m also interested in Public Relations which is not only an essential part of Journalism, but of being Miss IJD as well!

I'm looking forward to this next year and I hope to meet as many people as possible. I'm so grateful for this opportunity and I would like to thank everyone for their support.
