artist's statement My art celebrates life up-close, colourful, and bold.
I derive my inspiration in painting animals, people, and places from some of what I value
in life; not only in the subject matter itself, but also in the qualities portrayed and
the emotions evoked.
I think my use of colour was influenced by my
childhood, when my brother and I would watch television on an old black and white TV in
the basement. We were convinced we could see the images in colour, and could even agree on
what the colours were, when asked separately. Now, in an animal's brown fur, I paint the
less obvious colours like blue, orange, or purple that I see. |
