District Governor's Visit

District 19D Governor, Joan Anderson-Campbell visited our club on Wednesday, October 15, 2003. Much of the District Governor's address to the club focused on this summer's fires in the interior of B.C. and the roles of the 100 Mile community, the local Lions Club and Lions International played in their support of the interior community of Barrière. Pictured (from the left) are Zone 19D-10 Chairman Harv Allen, District 19D Governor Joan Anderson-Campbell, and 100 Mile House Club President Ron Metcalfe.

Barrière Fire Relief

At a recent gathering hosted by Yummers on Birch, members of the Barrière Lions Club were presented with a cheque for $11,086 by members of the 100 Mile Lions Club and the staff of Yummers. The amount donated, representing the collective efforts of Yummers and the 100 Mile House Lions Club, was the result of a fund-raising dance organized by Yummers and a bar hosted by the Lions Club. The amount raised will be used for forest fire relief in Barrière according to criteria established by the Lions Club in that community. Standing (left) are members of the 100 Mile Lions Club, standing (right) are members of the staff of Yummers, and seated (behind the cheque) are representatives of the Barrière Lions Club.

Radio Auction

On November 17 & 18, 2003, the 100 Mile House Lions Club held its 26th Annual Lions Club Radio & TV Auction. This year's event was very successful thanks to the contributions of local industry and merchants and the bidding of local citizens. The total amount bid was $12,487 and we anticipate expenses of about $3000. Pictured are our esteemed announcers Lions Ray Carlson (left) and Ron Graves (right).

Ski Marathon

Lions Mary Hunter, Harry Bishop, Ron Metcalfe, Gerry Niblow and Willy Seminoff, Stela Meloche from the 100 Mile House Advisor and Sharon Schuit from 100 Mile Realty volunteered at the Cariboo Ski Marathon held Sunday, February 7, beginning at 9:00 am. Pictured are Lions Willy Seminoff (left) and Harry Bishop (right).

As skiers returned from 10, 20 and 50 km cross-country events, they were served hot chili, buns, cookies and a variety of hot beverages by our volunteers. The chili, prepared by an employee of the Hoof and Harness Restaurant and several others, was thoroughly enjoyed by all who partook.

Snowarama

Lions Gerry Niblow, Ron Metcalfe and Dave Warman presided at the Loch Lomond end of this year's Snowarama. Forty-four sleds and forty-eight riders entered the event which raised $2620.00 for the Lions Society for Children with Disabilities.

Outhouse Caper

The Loon Bay Resort (on Highway 24 near Interlakes) was the site of the annual "Great Outhouse Caper" hosted by the Highway 24 - Interlakes Snowmobile Club. Dressed in regal feline attire for this auspicious occasion was Lion Harry Bishop. Our savanna-dwelling friend was seated on a specially constructed "throne" atop a container of kitty litter.

Magic Show

John Kaplan's Magic Show was held at the 100 Mile House Community Hall on Saturday, April 17, 2004. John performed card tricks, rope tricks, a variety of illusions and at least two horizontal slicings of well-known local personalities. John was aided in these endeavors by co-host Rexdale the Rabbit and by able assistants Christine, Sarah and Garrett.

Lion Zone Chairman, Harv Allen was asked if we would get twice as much work out of him after John Kaplan provided him with a "split personality". Harv's reply was, "Only if I get paid twice as much!". Thankfully, Harv did get himself back together before the end of the first performance.
