![]()
Objectives:
* The students will compare and contrast the way people in Canada and China meet their basic needs.
* The student will analyze how traditions and customs in China influence the way the people meet their basic needs, by identifying and describing the values held.
* The students will analyze the effect of communication and technology on the way the Chinese meet their basic needs.
* The students will take notes in point form collected from various sources.
Anticipatory Set: The lesson will begin by reviewing the previous lesson where the students were given instructions on how to construct a power point presentation. Then show them some more examples of power point presentations on China and then have a discussion on the ideas they can use for their own power point presentations.
Materials: Overhead projector, computer, power point instructions, paper and pencils
Procedure: Inform students that it is important to work collaboratively in groups; learning to make power point presentations are beneficial and that it is important to learn about other cultures such as China. At this point, all of the groups should have sufficient and quality information on their topics and are ready to make their power point presentations. They will have one week to put their presentations together. They can work on the computers at school but they must also try to work on their presentations at home. Each presentation should be roughly ten minutes leaving another ten minutes for a question and answer period. This gives students a chance to show what they have learned about China and it also gives students a chance to ask for clarification.
Closure: Ask students what they learned about China that was most interesting to them and about their experience with making the PowerPoint presentation.
Assessment: The PowerPoint presentation will be assessed using the PowerPoint presentation checklist and the content within the presentation will be assessed using the expert group rubric. As well a self monitoring checklist will be handed in at the end of the period (this is done by the individual students). The students will also be given time to reflect in their learning logs where they need to expand on the points made in the self monitoring checklist.
Modifications: Special needs students will be in groups of six people. They will have a small and specific role with a lot of student and teacher guidance. They will be assigned the group mark and will present a small portion of the presentation. Special needs students will complete the self monitoring checklist orally with the teacher.
