Location:
This cemetery lies on the west side of the main road from Caen to Falaise (route N158)and just north of the village of Cintheaux. Bretteville-sur-Laize is a village and commune in the department of the Calvados, some 16 kilometres south of Caen. The village of Bretteville lies 3 kilometres south-west of the Cemetery. Buried here are those who died during the later stages of the battle of Normandy, the capture of Caen and the thrust southwards (led initially by the 4th Canadian and 1st Polish Armoured Divisions), to close the Falaise Gap, and thus seal off the German divisions fighting desperately to escape being trapped west of the Seine. Almost every unit of Canadian 2nd Corps is represented in the Cemetery. There are about 3,000 allied forces casualties of the Second World War commemorated in this site.

94.  Ref_ObituaryGregHazell31Aug06, Gregory Hazell      HAZELL _ Gregory (Greg) Martin 1960 - 2006 Greg Hazell, beloved husband of Ellen Hazell and father of Janessa and Kaylan, of Airdrie, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at the age of 46 years. Along with his loving wife and daughters, Greg is survived by his loving parents, Frank and Marg Hazell of Edmonton; his sister and brother-in-law, Debby and Darwin Sturko of Edmonton; his brother Dick Hazell of Honolulu, HI; two nephews and a niece, Ryan (Monelle), Travis, and Brittany Sturko. Greg was born March 26, 1960 in Edmonton. He owned and operated G & E Furnace Cleaning for the past sixteen years. Through his business, Greg has gained numerous contacts who became wonderful friends. Greg's number one passion in life was his daughters. He was very involved and devoted to their sporting activities, especially spending numerous hours playing soccer and basketball with them and their friends. Greg's other passions were spending the past twelve summers at Triple Diamond RV with his family and friends and family trips to Prince Edward Island where he wanted to retire next to the ocean. Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church (1305 Main Street), Airdrie, AB on Monday, September 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Feldmann SAC, Presider.
