To be honest when the latest edition of 40k
came out I was quite upset with the major changes that
GW made compared to the previous version.
Gone were many of the the unique items and wargear. No
more Psychic phase and movement for the individual
races was non existent. But since I run all the GW
games at the Sentry Box here in town I soon
grew to like the new W40K (although I still have the
occasional game of the 2nd edition) and its
back on the top of my favorite games. Below are
links to images of some of the armies I am
presently collecting. Missing are my Chaos, Space Wolves
and Blood Angels which I work on as much as
I can. I appreciate any feedback and I will try to get
some better images as soon as possible.
In the previous version the Eldar were definitely
my favorite army because of their versatility and
great variety of weapons, troops and Psychic
abilities. In the 3rd edition the Eldar are still one of my
favorites but I've grown to enjoy playing
the Tyranids more often and with the release of their codex
and fantastic new models (except maybe the
Carnifex) they're sure to see battle more than any of my
other armies. The Space Wolves are slowly
getting started and my Ork horde of 3000 points is nearing
completion. More images will surely arrive
soon and tactics for some of the armies will be posted to, so
keep checking here periodically.
Oct. 15/01: The
new Tau army has definitely a unique feel to it and some of the new models
are great
and some are ok. This army has allot of weaknesses
that can be easily exploited by opponents who get
to know this army. Unfortunately I think many
players will have to do the inevitable and that is build up
their arsenal of Battle suit units. These
units will give most players the best chance of survival and Andy
Chambers noted this right in the beginning
of the Codex. The Tau warriors will be pathetic in hand to
hand combat and even though the Kroot have
a few small advantages they won't survive much longer.
With total lack of power weapons or any that
remove a models save this army will have a really hard time
with power armor or those with good saves.
Even the Battle Suits won't fair much better and what may
help them is the 4+ invulnerable save they
can have which I am sure every player will have included.
This is an army that asks to have a big variety
of units from all the selections you have, the basic troop
in my opinion will never win you a game unless
you get really lucky or at least outfit the units to the max
and there isn't that many things you can add
to your standard troop selections. So remember you will be
wanting some of those expensive Battle Suit
figures if you want to have a good chance in your battles.
I know I will have quite a few of them and
that's not because I want to win all the time ( many know I
don't any ways) but I like to have fun and
fair games.

Well 4th edition is here and I think GW has done a great job of cleaning
up the rules and adding new elements to an
already sound gaming system. The rule book is
just filled with extras, like painting, modeling,
terrain building and lots of scenarios. Even
though I was hoping to see some of the 2nd
edition come back into the game it's still good
to have a clean set of rules and it does flow
quite nicely. Now I will just have to figure out the
best way to use all my armies with the updated
changes.
