Expeditions and Adventures

In 2006 we made only some small excursions around Western Canada, mostly Alberta. In May we took a weekend in the south, visiting Dinosaur Park, Dry Island Buffalo Jump, and Kinbrook Island where they have a bird sanctuary and Gerard and I both had fun taking photos of them.

The first weekend in June took us more north to the Devonian Gardens, Chickakoo Lakes Recreation Area, and my favorite,Wagner Bog, where I found some orchids you'll see later.

We had a week's vacation in the Shuswap area of British Columbia to camp with our friends The Legges and Menzels in the middle of July, where the weather as usual was perfect and the company lots of fun. The wine tour for my birthday was a highlight. On the way home we stayed and played at Kokanee Springs Golf Resort-very nice. Late in July we took another weekend trip north to Elk Island National Park-always so close, but I'd never been. We also looked at the Beaverhill area, but the lake seems to have disappeared. We had a beautiful walk anyway, overgrown and wasp-ridden as it was.

August charmed me into a motorcycle trip to Fernie, BC with Gerard on his '82 Honda CB900 Custom (for those of you who know of these things), and some other crazy people on their bikes, including our friends Jeanette, Clayton, Ron and Shelly. We made some new friends, too. It was great fun, and maybe I'll even do it again in a couple of years, when my bottom heals. :)

In September we moved Rachel into the University of Calgary campus, she's having a great year there. We did our usual golf campout at Canyon Creek near Rocky Mtn. Hse. near the end of the month-always a blast with all my golf 'team' , their families and more. We came home to Brittany's boyfriend Craig's Elevated Taktics demonstration in Red Deer. That was spectacular! They are a Freestyle MotoCross team and they do really scary stunts high in the air.

Girls Weekend in October with Marianne, Angie, and new friend Sylvie was an Ultimate Pajama Party at Chateau Lake Louise - Oh What Luxury! What fun, and we all even learned something. Every girl should do one of those. Check them out at the Helene Programs website.

That's my year in a nutshell I think. I'll update again in 2007 sometime.
