I had heard rumours that The Orchids THOMAS McNULTY and WINE FROST had shown a slight scent. So I thought that a small new effect like this might be something that could be intensified by controlled breeding using the hand pollination techniques that are published here also.
I was successful and found 7 of 30 seedlings that had a greater scent than the parents. One had several times more scent and I was able to take a bloom to the 1998 National Show in Eugene, Oregon. Quite a few surprised noses!

This 'most scented' one will be released as HY SCENT as soon as enough stock is available, probably 2002 (YES!) and through Ferncliff Gardens in North America, and Dave Spencer in the UK.
This year I planted the scented siblings, with a good color range (see 2 below), around Hy Scent, which also has a much larger flower at nearly 6 inches, and saved a good supply of seed from Hy Scent only. Limited availability. e-mail to check.
Available Nov. 2001 until Sold out 2002. SEED
