This AA (Giant) Incurved Cactus is named for my late mom who passed away Dec.2000. She was able to enjoy it for 4 years as I grew and trialed it in various locations. She liked it.
It scored 88.0 in the Eastern trial Garden in 2000.
Several years ago I had a fascinating talk with the late Bob Simon. We were looking over the Giants (his speciality) in a show in Bellingham, Washington, and we stopped at a bloom of SPIKE, a white giant cactus. He said that he thought it was a great genetic source. The next year it was on the head table as King of the Show. I got a tuber from the winner and after several years of breeding with tempting results, I finally hit HY MOM. Its other parent is KLONDIKE.
Look at the amazing depth! Right back to the solid stems, in spite of a good incurve.
Since then I have used Hy Mom as a seed parent in further breeding and I can report that IT has excellent genetic potential.
