Old brain's proposal of why yawning is contagious
It's not surprising really as we are kinda
synchronized any way usually going to bed or waking up
at similar times.
To my knowledge we don't yawn in our
sleep but then that makes sense because we don't have
the stimulation to our brains that we do when we are
awake.
The brain has less need of cerebrospinal
fluid to nourish the cells or to transport brain
chemicals that are used in the process of processing
comprehension of the stimulation...but we do, dream and
move in our sleep, enough to keep CSF from
becoming stagnant, yet, not enough to make the
system (cerebrospinal fluid) work nominally
We yawn most within the first half hour
of waking up..for this reason about 1/2 of
the yawning that a person does is done
first thing in the day (first hour) as a result
we may be mostly synchronized in the morning
(yawning may be most contagious before noon)
As result of similar stimulation so we are due to yawn at
nearly the same time...
When yawning is contagious and is a shared experience,
it is like a concensus...someone motions someone seconds
all agree that they are indeed in synchronicity with their
environments and the facilitating of stimulation within them.
When you are on the phone or in a car, you are sharing the same
stimulation through the environment of the conversation or the traffic.
You may be triggering different neurotransmitters because
you are not the same person and you may share or differ
in the way you process that stimulation which triggers
the production of neurotransmitters.
Yawning cleans the brain and as we roughly yawn 10 times
a day we are due to yawn at the same time and when you
share a conversation on the telephone or videophone
you are sharing concepts that stimulate your mind at the
same time........so neurotransmitters are produced to
process the concepts within the brain at the same time.
And yawning cleans the brain and sends some of these
neurotransmitters to the body where they may be used
recycled and recirculated.
It is a concensus, that you are both at the same point in
comprehension of the concepts you are sharing.....usually
it happens at the conclusion of a concept the oh I get it
or I don't get it part.
You yawn at the same time then the concept gets exchanged
further or you change the topic... and start up a new set
of neurotransmitters being produced with a clean and
refreshed brain.
