The Motto of the National Society Daughters of the Revolution is God, Home and Country and its objectives are Historic Preservation, Promotion of Education and Patriotic Endeavor. In keeping with the motto and objective of the National Society, Heritage Chapter has undertaken the following projects:
Support of our local War Veterans at the Colonel Belcher Hospital and by each year laying a wreath at the Cenotaph on November 11th. Support of the Museum of the Regiments which is the 2nd largest Museum of its kind in Canada.
The Chapter’s millennium project was a donation to the statue “Egg Money” which is a life-size bronze statue honouring pioneer farm women who made such a significant contribution to the building of both countries. Artists Don and Shirley Begg conceived the statue to capture the spirit, determination and dedication of these prairie heroines. It was unveiled in Calgary at The Ranche in Fish Creek Park on May 12, 2002. Our support of other historical projects include donations to Fort Calgary and Fort Edmonton as well as sponsorship of a garden bench at Lougheed House and a park bench at Battalion Park in Calgary.
In the Spring of 2002 we donated funds to the University of Calgary to establish a Bursary called “Daughters of the American Revolution Heritage Chapter Bursary in History (preferably in American History). The value of the award has been set at $500.00 per year and the first disbursement occurred in the Fall of 2003. We also support education with donations to the Calgary Learning Centre.
On the National level, we contribute to the President General’s Fund, donate books to the NSDAR Library and support Tamassee DAR School with our collection of Campbell’s soup labels.
