The Messiah'sTrue birth date |
|---|
There have been many books written about the PAGAN origin of 'Christmas'. Therefore I will not add to this list, but instead concentrate on the Scriptures.
It is important to know, and understand that the Bible was written by Jews, in a Jewish culture, and we must therefore use the Jewish Calendar to determine dates.
| 1 | Nisan | March/April | SPRING |
| 2 | Iyyar | April/May | |
| 3 | Sivan | May/June | |
| 4 | Tammuz | June/July | SUMMER |
| 5 | Ab | July/August | |
| 6 | Ellul | August/September | |
| 7 | Tishri | September/October | FALL |
| 8 | Heshvan | October/November | |
| 9 | Kislev | November/December | |
| 10 | Tebeth | December/January | WINTER |
| 11 | Shebat | January/February | |
| 12 | Adar | February/March |
| Ezra 10:9 | Within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin had gathered in Jerusalem. And on the twentieth day of the ninth month (Kislev), all the people were sitting in the square before the house of God, greatly distressed by the occasion and because of the rain. |
| Luke 2:4-8 | So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. |
In Israel, the winter rains start coming in the month Heshvan, and increase in intensity through the month Tebeth. The book of Ezra clearly indicates what the weather was like. It is obviously no place for shepherds to be tending their flocks in the fields during this time of year. In fact historical records indicate that the sheep were taken into shelters sometime during the month Heshvan. This would be more than 6 weeks before the traditional time of December 25, (Kislev/Tebeth).
The Bible itself therefore hints strongly at the falsehood of Yeshua's birth occurring on, or even near December 25 as this would be during Kislev/Tebeth, the dead of winter.
While we can exclude then the traditional 'Christmas' date, can we actually deduce the true date of Messiah's birth, from the Scriptures?
I believe the answer is YES, but we must dig a little deeper to reveal the truth.
I have used three (3) methods for determining the true date of Messiah's birth.
1) The date of the Passover.
2) The birth of John (the baptist).
3) God's Holy Days as a guide.
| 1st method | |
|---|---|
| Luke 3:23 | Now Yeshua himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli, |
| This Scripture indicates that Yeshua started his ministry when he became 30 years of age. Bible scholars indicate He continued this ministry for a period of 3 1/2 years. Since we know the exact date of his death, Passover, we only have to go back 1/2 year (6 months) to discover his birthday. Using the calendar provided above, we can see that if Yeshua died in the month of Nisan, then 6 months prior to that would be the month of Tishri. | |
| Conclusion #1: Yeshua was born during the month Tishri. | |
| 2nd method | |
|---|---|
| Luke 1:5 | In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. |
| 1 Chr 24:6-10 | The scribe Shemaiah son of Nethanel, a Levite, recorded their names in the presence of the king and of the officials: Zadok the priest, Ahimelech son of Abiathar and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites-- one family being taken from Eleazar and then one from Ithamar.
The first lot fell to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, the fifth to Malkijah, the sixth to Mijamin, the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, |
| During the time of king David, there were so many priests, that they had to be divided into 24 'courses' or groups. Each course would serve in the Temple for a period of 1 week, starting with the first Sabbath of the year (Month of Nisan). During the 3 annual Holy Days, when all of Israel had to gather in Jerusalem, all the priests would serve together, then resume the group rotation the following week.
Since Zechariah belonged to the 8th group, he would be in the Temple during the 9th week of the year, as the annual feast day of Passover would have been celebrated during Nisan, and all the priests would have served at the Temple. This would put Zechariah's turn to serve in the Temple during the month of Sivan. When he completed his week of service, he returned home. It is reasonable to assume that Elizabeth became pregnant later that month, (Sivan). John the Baptist was then born 40 weeks (9 months) later, during the month of Nisan. Since John was about 6 months older than Yeshua (Luke 1: 36), The birthdate of Yeshua must be during the month of Tishri. | |
| Conclusion #2: Yeshua was born during the month of Tishri. | |
| 3rd method | |
|---|---|
| Lev 23:2 | "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies. |
| Col 2:16-17 | Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. |
| 1 Cor 5:6-8 | Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast-- as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth. |
| 1 Cor 15:51-52 | Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. |
| God's word makes it clear that God's Holy Days represent God's plan for our salvation, through the life (death, and resurrection) of Yeshua.
It seems reasonable to me, that since Yeshua fulfilled the Spring Festivals, exactly on the dates of the Jewish calendar, then he will also fulfil the Fall Festivals, exactly on the dates of the Jewish calendar at sometime in the future. If this interpretation is correct, and Yeshua comes on a future Day of Trumpets, than his first coming was very likely also on a Day of Trumpets. The Day of Trumpets, which is today better known as Rosh Hoshannah, is the 1st day of the month Tishri. | |
| Conclusion #3:Yeshua was born during the month of Tishri, most likely on Rosh Hoshannah, the 1st day of Tishri. | |
