Reunion 2005

A One Name Study is a study of all those by the same surname everywhere. The goal of the individual conducting this study is to trace each family tree and link up as many  individuals as possible. The end result is, of course, to aim to see how many families started out with this name.  Refer The Guild of One Names Studies for more information. www.one-name.org

The First Gornalls appeared in the Amounderness area of Lancashire, and by the middle 1600's they had moved further away and began to be found in other Counties.  In the 1500's a family of GURNELL appears in London, and another in Devon. A Quaker named John Gornell was one of the first pioneers in America to arrive there in the late 1600's. .

AS RESEARCH PROGRESSES, MANY OF THE ABOVE FAMILY TREES ARE  BEING MERGED WITH OTHER EXISTING TREES, POSSIBLY INDICATING THAT THERE WERE ONLY A HANDFULL OF INDIVIDUAL GORNALL FAMILIES EXISTING PRIOR TO 1600.  THEY TOO, COULD HAVE DESCENDED FROM ONE OR TWO FAMILIES WITH THE NAME GORNALL IN VERY EARLY TIMES.  TIME WILL TELL!!!

MORE FAMILY TREES WILL BE ADDED AND CHANGES WILL BE MADE AS THE ONE NAME STUDY PROGRESSES.

PLEASE CHECK BACK FROM TIME TO TIME AS WORK ON THIS SITE IMPROVES

IF YOU CAN HELP IN THIS STUDY OR WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO MY DATA BASE IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

In the meantime please contact me if you have a Gornall/Gornell ancestor and would like some help in tracing  them. gornallonenamestudy@shaw.ca
