Turbulence in the Earth's atmosphere distorts incoming wavefronts, causing blurry images. I work with adaptive optics (AO) which corrects this blurring in real time, and for the best astronomical observing sites can provide data as good as from space. My research includes:

  • Galaxy formation and evolution
  • Image processing techniques
  • Site testing for future ground-based telescopes
  • Simulation and integration of optical instruments

Testing the sky quality on Northern Ellesmere Island, Canada.

I was born in 1971 at Saint Paul, Minnesota, and raised in the multicultural city of Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am a dual citizen of Canada and the United States, married, and the proud father of two.
