Interpersonal Process Groups

For most of us, the years that fall between the ages of 20 and 40 are a period of complex and intense change. Some of the many life-defining challenges that emerge during this stage of life include: finding a life partner, establishing a personal and career identity, managing intense emotions, and finding meaning and enjoyment in life and work. If you are between the ages of 19 and 40, the Interpersonal Process Group can provide you with an opportunity to share your experiences, learn from others, and create positive change in your life.

Why Group Therapy?

Economy: group sessions cost roughly one third that of individual therapy sessions.

Universality: because we tend to feel unique and alone in our suffering, being part of a group helps us see that we are all "in the same boat." This realization alone can provide great relief.

Understanding: of ourselves and others.

Self-Esteem: the group experience can improve self-esteem in a number of ways, including direct positive feedback from others, and learning that others value our support, suggestions, and caring.

Personal development: this cannot be overstated - group therapy can help us develop as social beings (e.g., through feedback from others, by learning from other's behavior and advice).

Support: the group can provide a sense of belonging, warmth, and mutual acceptance.

Some of the topics that can be addressed in group include:

Improving relationships
Developing an effective stress management plan
Mapping out a life path (how did I get here and where am I going?)
Challenging negative and self-defeating thought patterns
