Born in Vancouver B.C., he has worked in soft pastel since 1975.

a review from my works in New Century Artist Gallery March 2013, NY NY
"The Canadian artist D. F. Gray on the other hand, works in soft pastel on paper, layering delicate strokes to evoke impressive subtleties of chiaroscuro. Gray’s “Moorcroft Vue” depicts the rolling tide, craggy rocksand foliage of a Canadian shoreline with dappled strokes, while “From Brant Point” is a moist marshy vision of one of the artists favorite painting sites."

Pastel
Technically, pastel is powdered pigment, rolled into round or square sticks and contained by methyicellulose, a non-greasy binder. When protected by frame and glass, pastel is the most permanent of all media, for it never cracks, darkens or yellows. Today, pastel has the same stature of oil and watercolor as a major fine art medium. Many of our most renowned living artists have distinguished themselves in pastel, enriching the art world with this beautiful medium.
