CanadaMrSid CD-ROM Contents
===========================

Images on these CD-ROMs were obtained from the
US National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA)
Earth Science Applications Directorate(ESAD) MrSid Image Server:
http://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/

There are a total of 69 MrSid images which, in whole or in part,
have coverage of Canada, and which are contained on 4 CD-ROMs.
Not all of Canada is covered by the Nasa MrSid images. Areas
that are not covered lie in the far north.

The original image downloads from the Nasa ESAD MrSid image server
contained the MrSid images in a "tarball"(.tar) archive file.
From each of these files the MrSid image file(.sid) and it's
associated files were extracted. The associated files consist of
the 'world file'(.sdw), image metadata(.met), and a small JPEG
image of the MrSid image.

Each of the MrSid images was imported into OziExplorer(www.oziexplorer.com),
creating an OziExplorer map file(.map). The OziExplorer map files have
their image file path set to "D:\". This will need to be changed if you
wish to use the MrSid images from a location other than the root directory
of your D drive.

The MrSid images and their associated files total about 2.35 gigabytes,
and are distributed on four CD-ROMs grouped according to the UTM zone
designation in the Nasa MrSid image name:

Volume 4

UTM zones 18,19,20,21,22 (78W-48W)
part of Ontario, most of Quebec, part of Nunavut, New Brunswick,
Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador

GeoViewer
---------
The "setup.exe" file is the installation file for Lizardtech Software's
MrSid GeoViewer 2.1, available from:
http://www.lizardtech.com/download/?x=2&p=19&o=1

IndexMap
--------
CanadaIndex.png is a map image(calibrated for use with OziExplorer) of Canada
suitable for use as an index map for the MrSid images. When used as an index
map, the polygons that are displayed to show the outlines of the MrSid maps
are trapeziods, because the MrSid maps use the UTM projection, but this index
map uses a geographic(latitude/longitude) projection.
The OziExplorer map file has its image file path set to "D:\". This will need
to be changed if you wish to use the CanadaIndex.png image from a location other
than the root directory of your D drive.
