Welcome to Debbie's Garden Tour

Hi! My name is Debbie (the daylily) and one of my (more interesting) hobbies is gardening. I am very proud of my perennial gardens and I think I am very good at it even though I did everything "wrong" according to all the books I read AFTER I had established gardens growing. For instance, here in Winnipeg, the soil is heavy clay. Well, I didn't do all the double-digging and soil-enriching that the books said I should have... I simply dumped a couple inches of topsoil over the clay, dug some holes and planted away! If it didn't grow with THAT much care, I didn't want it anyway.

My love of gardening kind of grew over the years with most of my original plants coming to me as divisions from my mom, a wonderful gardener herself. And as things were going well, I just kept adding plants and digging more gardens. My pride and joy is my "Rock Garden" which is along the 5' strip on the west side of the house. All the rocks in it (and along my shade garden) as well as the pebbles between the stepping stones, were painstakingly collected and hauled back from the shores of Lake Manitoba. Most of my gardens are shade gardens. But instead of splashes of colour, I tend to go more for lushness and textures - well, no, actually I go for whatever will grow, and I believe I have had very successful results.

Anyway, I have put together a map of our yard, showing the angles of various views of my gardens. I hope you enjoy your visit and now ....

On to the Garden!

(Take a look... it's not as boring as this page!)
