1) WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE BA CHARACTER AND WHY?
Amy Angel. I just dig the way she looks. She's totally the kind of character I'd be drawing normally so I enjoy drawing her. I also love the way Jeff Elden draws her.
2) WHO HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE CREATOR ON THE BA (other than yourself?)
That's a tough one. I'm gonna have to go with Joe Dunn. His work on panel 98 just knocked my socks off. I felt nervous having to follow him.
3) WHAT WAS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT DOING YOUR PANELS?
The time constraints. I'm a slow artist to begin with, and I've been extremely busy these days, particularly since the birth of my daughter. It's just hard trying to manage the time.
4) WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PERSONAL HIGHPOINT DOING THE BA?
I just love seeing where it goes next and looking back to see how it's actually kind of a cool story no matter now convoluted it seems to get.
5) HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE THE BA TO NEW READERS?
Kind of like the artistic equivalent of a bunch of drunk guys who got busted by the cops and are trying to talk their way out of trouble by "explaining" things but they keep interrupting each other and somehow the cop is making some sort of sense out it to figure out what's really going on. Or maybe like "Rashomon" as if it were made by the inmates of Arkham Asylum.
1) WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE BA CHARACTER AND WHY?
Amy will always be the one character I obsess over, after all I introduced her, so I feel responsible for taking care of her. Her past is something I would really love to tell someday; how she met Bruno then became an actual Angel, where she went wrong and fell in with the Circus Demonus, and the summer she spent with her sister Anna, her lover Bruno and his brother Bizhour that set the stage for Amy to become The Bullet Angelica. So, as you may be able to tell, Amy is constantly floating around my head. However, I would have to say my favorite character is Spooner. I've had so much fun watching his development from phone to...homeless man in fur coat? He intriques me as a character with so many possibilities that each panel he's featured in spawns whole new ideas in my head. I would consider Bruno, Amy and Spooner to be the 3 main players in The Bullet Angelica, with Spooner having thus far taken a smaller role. I think it's time the man who has a tendency to look like a certain trademarked character take the spotlight.
2) WHO HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE CREATOR ON THE BA (other than yourself?)
Ah, man! This is like asking a mother to choose between her children. I can't pick, or rather my decision is constantly changing. I LOVE what each creator has brought to the Bullet Angelica. Each of us comes from such contrasting backgrounds and interest that it has really helped to shape the story and the overall feel, which is SO eclectic. I seriously can't choose between Joe's slick, action packed panels to Jason's crude, yet very funny panels to Michael's bizarre, abstract panels to everyone elses flare and personality.
3) WHAT WAS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT DOING YOUR PANELS?
You wait so long for your turn to come up, and with each new panel that's added you have more and more ideas on where to take the story. By the time you get that email from Devin, subject line: Bullet Time, you have a full 24 page comic scripted in your head and only one panel to draw it in. The hardest part is choosing which ideas to abandon and which to pursue, then compacting all the ideas you have left over into one panel.
4) WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PERSONAL HIGHPOINT DOING THE BA?
For me it's been watching the evolution of my art. I learned how to color, and make it look fairly decent, with Photoshop through The Bullet Angelica. Having that one panel to tell a story has really helped me understand how to use the space I have effectivly, and to really convey my meaning to the audience. Watching what others have done has really helped me, too. The Bullet encouraged me to draw more often, and to learn, and I think it's awesome to look at my first panel and my last and see the change.
5) HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE THE BA TO NEW READERS?
"No, really. It helps you lose weight."
1) WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE BA CHARACTER AND WHY?
Bruno. You gotta love a good anti-hero.
2) WHO HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE CREATOR ON THE BA (other than yourself?)
Derrick Fish. I love his style, and he always makes a real impact in the story whenever his panel comes up.
3) WHAT WAS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT DOING YOUR PANELS?
The hardest thing is not messing up what everyone loves so much. It's easy to see that the readers, and contributors to the comic have become really attached to the characters. I would hate to ruin that for anyone. Do I do something drastic like killing one of the leads? Or do I just play it safe? It's only one panel every now and then, but one panel can really change the entire direction. That's the beauty of a good JAM.
4) WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PERSONAL HIGHPOINT DOING THE BA?
I liked 98, the lead in to Christopher's amazing chapter 1 wrap up.
5) HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE THE BA TO NEW READERS?
To my readers I always tell them it's a pass along comic, but to try and describe BA specifically.... the story of BA... I have no idea. It's complicated and can't really be pinned into one genre. But that's a good thing. If it were so plain and simple, it would be boring. And if it were boring, no one would read it.
