In June 2005, a particularly intense period of vandalism on Cole Island spurred a small group of View Royal residents to organize the Friends of Cole Island. The group went on to acquire society status on August 29, 2005. Our mission is to ensure preservation of this unique naval heritage site.

Our goals are to encourage relevant levels of government to:
  • Prevent further vandalism
  • Preserve the heritage buildings
  • Have Cole Island formally reognized as a marine park and ensure its preservation for future generations
  • Maintain the site so it remains a safe place for visitors
