On June 6, 1944 (D-Day), Canadian serviceman Art Perry landed and fought on
Juno Beach
in Normandy, France where the allied forces finally drove back
the
German
army.
On June 6, 2003, the Juno Beach Center was
officially opened
in
remembrance of those
who gave their lives in this historic invasion.
Mr. Perry
made the trip back to Juno Beach
to take part in the ceremonies and
pay respects
to his
many fallen friends. The
Calgary International
Airport
Pipe Band
honored
this
veteran by
piping him through
the terminal to his airplane.
On November 8, 2007, veteran Art Perry passed away at the age of 87. His son Jim
played with the Calgary International Airport Pipe Band so we got to know Art quite
well over the years. We are deeply saddened by his passing.
