During this time China Creek and Mctush Campgrounds are completely full. Boh are located on the waters edge of the beautiful Port Alberni Inlet. China Creek reservations should be made very early. Campbell River, Tahsis, Port Hardy, Ucluelet, and Bamfield are no diferent during the summer months. People arrive in huge numbers to search for the many species of available salmon.
Saltwater sport salmon fishing is also available during the winter months on Vancouver Island. Many of the fishing locations have resident chinook known as winter springs or feeders. These fish average 8 to 15 pounds and are found at deeper depths.

People naturally want to take their salmon catch home. Individuals are allowed up to 4 salmon in their possession daily with a maximum of a 2 day limit depending on the salmon species. For example sockeye and pinks are often 4 per day with a two day possession limit and chinook are two per day with a two day salmon possession limit. Fishers can travel with their salmon on ice in the many commercial coolers available. When flying it is also possible to carry fresh or frozen salmon on ice in a new special airline container available at most fish outlet stores. There are many smokehouses on Vancouver Island where catches can be hot, cold, or candied smoked. Individuals can also opt to use Vancouver Islands famous St Jeans Cannery and smokehouse which has depots all over Vancouver Island including Port Alberni, Ucluelet and Tofino.
