We have seen the comments from
the draft plan open house.
Opposed to high rise on waterfront (Plan) – 84%
Support high rise (Plan) – 7%
No comment on high rise – 9%

Neighbourhood Draft Plan Open House November 3rd
- City staff will represent the latest version of nthe neighbourhood plan at ECOLE OCEANE from 4:30 - 8:30pm
- Please attend and voice your views
- The BHCA strongly opposes many aspects of this DRAFT as our area hasn't been listented to by City Staff during the process and our quality of life may well be negatively affected if this Draft Plan is adopted by City Council - So we need your views voiced to City Staff and Council.
About the Brechin Hill Community Association (BHCA)
Boundaries:
- from the Ste. George Ravine, to the East side of Terminal Avenue, to the South side of Beach Estates Park, to the waterfront in Departure Bay and along Newcastle Channel.
What & Who the BHCA is:
- a non profit community group made up of paying members from our area
- represented by its elected Board of Directors
- mandated to preserve and enhance the quality of life for the residents in our community
- committed to planning and has been involved with the Imagine Nanaimo Steering Committee, the Plan Nanaimo Steering Committee and the Port Master Plan
- recognized by the City of Nanaimo and is a member of the Nanaimo Neighbourhood Network
BHCA initiatives, responses and partnerships include:
- revitalization of the Barney Moriez Community Park
- ensuring OCP mandates for development at the Sealand Neighbourhood Village area are adhered to
- Fuel Transfer facility development negotiations (for the Pacificats) at BC Ferries Departure Bay terminal
- ensuring the planning of area fuel storage facilities includes their eventual relocation
- boat shed development guidelines for Newcastle Channel in conjunction with the Nanaimo Harbour Commission (Nanaimo Port Authority)
- promoting the development of the waterfront walkway
- the recent improvements to Brechin Road in cluding sidewalks and resufacing
- recreating and implementing the Community Plan process
- local area development issues are being presented to the community for community input
Our Community involvement includes other activities like pot lucks, neighbourhood parties, and block parenting.
