Kettle Valley Railway trail, Midway to Penticton
Page 8

Penticton in the distance. Almost there.

The white-roofed building on the left is our soon-to-be lunch stop: the Hillside Winery

The Hillside Winery is conveniently sited right below the KVR, with a sign to remind cyclists zooming downhill, to stop and sample their wares

Cheers! Lunch at the Hillside Winery

A look back north from kilometer 209.6 shows us the hills that we've just descended from, and more of the beautiful vineyards along Okanagan Lake

At kilometer 212.6 we cross Vancouver Avenue (in Penticton) and the KVR turns into a paved trail. Elevation: 375 m

Arriving at the original Penticton Station at kilometer 215 (elevation 339 m) is slightly anti-climatic, as it's now surrounded by townhouses and difficult to get at, except for one parking lot with this inconveniently placed dumpster that we tried to hide behind our bikes. But no matter: we are done!

Here is a map of our route and the elevation profile of the Carmi subdivision
The KVR route is shown as a thick pink line on the map below. Our ride varied from it in a few places where it is inaccessible, but we travelled on it 95% of the time between Midway and Penticton

Elevation profile of KVR, Carmi subdivision. It looks scary but it's really exaggerated for effect. The steepest grades between Chute Lake Lodge and Little Tunnel were only 2.2% (of course we were going downhill so it didn't seem that bad)
