"Our Foundation is Education"

In the early eighties, the B.C. Association of Medical Radiation Technologists Continuing Education Committee undertook a large educational project needing outside funding. A review of the BCAMRT Constitution revealed that the Association could not accept large monetary donations of this nature. A solution to this restriction was the formation of a "Charitable Foundation" operated exclusively for the activities carried on by the organization. The Board of Directors and members of the BCAMRT supported this concept and the BCAMRT Foundation was incorporated by the B.C. Ministry of Consumer and Corporate Affairs on June 24, 1982. The Foundation is registered with Revenue Canada and issues receipts that can be used as a charitable tax deduction. Over the years, the Foundation has received corporate donations and each year has disbursed scholarships, bursaries and awards to technologist and student members of the BCAMRT.

Who belongs to the BCAMRT Foundation?

All 1700 members of the B.C. Association of Medical Radiation Technologists are members of the BCAMRT Foundation. The Board of Directors encourage all members to support the fundraising endeavours of the Foundation. We welcome volunteers wishing to help organize events and we encourage all members to attend the various fundraisers.
 

What is the cost of the Foundation to its members?

Nothing! The Foundation operates separately from the BCAMRT and is self-sustaining. All the work is done by volunteers and no part of the income received from donations and contributions is available for the personal benefit of anyone involved. Operating costs are kept to an absolute minimum.

How can members help the Foundation?

• By using the Foundation. It is there to encourage and help members achieve educational goals. More use provides more stimulus to the Foundation and its members
• By coming up with ideas for projects, promotion, fundraisers and marketing.
• By making a donation - you can make a cash donation, donate a door prize or donate your time to help with organizing events
• By volunteering for one of the positions on the Board; offering your help at times of fundraising and promotions; liaising with the membership and informing your co-workers about the work of the Foundation

What awards and bursaries are available?

First Year Student Bursaries

A $500 award presented to students during their first year of study

 

Student Achievement Awards

This $500 award is presented to a student in each of the four disciplines during their final year of study. The award is presented to the student who demonstrates outstanding potential.
 

Graduate Member Bursaries

These are five $100 Bursaries awarded to Graduate Members who wish to pursue continuing education in Medical Radiation Technology
 

The Alexander Kozak Bursary

This is a $1000 Bursary to assist members who are pursuing the Bachelor of Technology Degree in Medical Imaging.
 

Award of Excellence

This award was established to recognize those members who have made a special contribution in the field of Education whether within their hospital or department or in the community at large.
