Descendants of Joseph Audiss

The surname AUDISS with this exact spelling is found almost exclusively in the county of Lincoln in England. There are many variations to the name, such as Audas, Audus, Audis, Awdis. One source says it is a Middle English name meaning "Old House". Another source says it's of French and latin origin, meaning "audacity." The spelling AUDISS seems to have been adopted by our family early in the 19th century. William Audiss lived in the northern part of Lincolnshire and he married Jane Weldale. Their daughter Sarah married Joseph Metcalf and emigrated to Canada, while the other family members remained in England. Another Audiss family lived in southern Lincolnshire but we don't have proof of any connection.
