Quick Brown Sugar Sauce

1/4 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/8 cup cold water

Combine first 5 ingredients, mix well. Bring to a boil. Mix the cornstarch with the cold water, gradually stir into boiling mixture. Boil slowly for a minute or two.
Serve on baked puddings or Apple Dumplings
