My objective in all the classes I teach is to help you develop, through training, a closer bond with your canine friend, and to help you produce a canine good citizen that you, your family, friends, and neighbours will be proud to know. My methods are gentle and stress positive reinforcement and praise. Proof of vaccination, including bordetella , within the past year, is required on the first day of class. Please don't feed your dog before the class, and make sure your dog has had an opportunity to empty both bladder and bowels before the class begins. Of course, as a responsible dog owner, you will always stoop and scoop! Baggies and a garbage can are available. My classes are open to all dogs, both purebred and mixed breeds. In the case of continuously unruly or aggressive behaviour, where a dog is disruptive or a danger to other dogs and handlers, I may ask that the dog is removed from class. Both group and individual classes are available during the day and the evening in convenient locations in Kelowna and on the Westside. Private consultations can also be provided. New Classes: Puppy - mid January,2012, Beginner Classes mid January 2012, contact me for registration. Your new puppy has the capability to learn from 7 weeks of age, although his attention span is very short at this point. During the first 5 months, a puppy needs many positive experiences to promote a confident, friendly personality. Socialization is very important so that your pup learns to show no fear of situations, people, and dogs he encounters. When your puppy has had two sets of vaccinations andthere is no fear of a communicable disease, he should attend puppy class where the whole family can learn how to work with him in a positive manner so that he develops into a happy, well-adjusted canine friend. Over a period of 6 weeks, your puppy will learn to watch, sit, down, come when called, socialize with other dogs, and have fun! The cost is $140.00 plus HST. Happiness is having a well-adjusted, obedient, happy canine friend. Building on what your dog learned in Puppy Class (and open to dogs of all ages), the 8 week Beginner Level 1 Class helps you to teach your dog to watch, sit, down (for 30 minutes), stand, stay, come, and walk on a loose leash. The training at this level is more formal, and requires consistant daily training in order to reach the goals you have set for yourself and your dog. Remember, a well-trained dog is a pleasure to own! The cost is $160.00, plus HST. Beginner Level 2 is for those dogs who have successfully completed Beginner Level 1. Over a period of 8 weeks, you and your dog will practice lengthening the duration for each of the exercises learned in Beginner Level 1, while adding increasing levels of distraction and proofing. Some off-leash exercises, including heeling, doggie games, and control in the presence of other dogs and people, are part of the training program. The cost is $160.00, plus HST. The Canine Good Neighbour is a certification program that tests dogs in simulated everyday situations in a relaxed atmosphere. It identifies and rewards dogs that have the training and demeanor to be a reliable family friend as well as a community member in good standing. The purpose of the Canine Good Neighbour is to ensure that our favourite companion, the dog, can be a respected member of the community because it is trained and conditioned to act mannerly in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs and people. My training course prepares both the dog and owner to perform the twelve exercises necessary to pass the CKC Canine Good Neighbour Test. These exercises simulate everyday situations, including accepting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting, appearance and grooming, walking on leash, walking through a crowd and a gate, sit and down stays, coming when called, reacting to another dog, reacting to strangers, and supervised separation and calming. Successfully passing the exam portion of the course results in a certificate issued by the Canadian Kennel Club. The cost is $160.00, plus HST. These classes are for those dogs and handlers who wish to enter AKC or CKC Obedience Trials. I hold Novice, Open, and Utility classes on an ongoing basis. The all-important ring procedure and footwork are an integral part of the program, as well as dealing with individual problems, proofing, and distractions. The many awards earned by my students speak for themselves. The cost is per lesson, |
