Ordinariness

Ordinariness
Creeps up on you
Life held so much promise, then you found it wasn’t true
And your perfect love, and your perfect war
Are full of words that somebody said before
And every shot, and every caress
Is ordinariness

Ordinariness
Creeps in at night
Even your dreams have begun to seem so trite
There’s nowhere to go, no one to see
And the morning dawns with cold banality
Your home’s just a room, and your postal address
Is ordinariness

It’s a place full of poets and kings
Where everyone should be a star
You’ve got your vision and you’ve got your schemes
But who do you think you are?

Ordinariness
Guess it’s only pride
To keep believing you have something so special deep inside
With whatever silence or speech you greet
The friendly strangers you sometimes meet
They don’t really know, and all they can guess
Is ordinariness

Ordinary song
Ordinary rhyme
You’ve failed once again to steal a moment back from time.
You’ll grow old, still toothlessly gumming your songs
You’ll commit all the conventional wrongs
But in the end, all you’ll have to confess
Is ordinariness
